Just had whiskey for the first time

Answer me French. At a party somewhere I had a taste of someone's Jack Daniels and it was wicked sweet, which surprised me a lot. I've often wondered if all those manly men would be chugging sweet girly liquor. Something is wrong with this story, I think.

I wonder if that's what I had and I'm disremembering...it was long ago. Gin is my go to for a cocktail. Not wild about any of the brown stuff.

Gin is too dry for me

The drier the better for me. My favorite used to be a Tangueray martini very cold and VERY dry, with a twist. Just pass the vermouth over the glass.

Speaking of which, I've been using Fireball nips for a tickly cough. Much better tasting than Robitussin and works great.

Bourbon by law has to have at least 51% corn in the mash.

Even at the lowest amount of corn bourbon tend to have a bit more sweetness than other whiskey.

You've never had whiskey? I would say it's more like wood smoke taste than sweet. It's more sour than sweet I think.

My favorite drink is Jameson whiskey with Ginger Ale soda in it.

EDIT: it's not as dry as Gin.

Jamesons is OK I prefer the American Bourbons over Irish whiskey

Usta have a shot of Old Crow and a Coors after work every Friday.

for me, Bourbon is harsh-----but not amongst the worst -----like gin and irish whiskey

Corn whiskey that is aged in charred oak barrels. The length of the aging process usually dictates the "smoothness" of the product (and the price). Evan Williams black gets my vote.

A friend dragged me out for my birthday one year and set me up with an Atomic Fireball-- it came in a two oz shotglass, was red and tasted exactly like those Atomic Fireballs we got for a penny at the candy counter. Iirc, vodka and Red Hot schnapps, possibly grenadine. Very tasty.

If you want to try a good whiskey I suggest a good 18 year old minimum single malt. My regular drinkin whiskey is an 18 year Macallan.

I'm fond of glenfiddich 15.

Plain Jack Daniels is bourbon whiskey, but they also make sweet alcohols, like Tennessee Honey Whiskey.

Eat some bread or drink some milk.

Yes, prescribed by my doctor. It was straight Scotch and like I say It cleared it right up.

I used to be a beer guy. I sold beer for a living for awhile, and really got into some of the high quality craft stuff.

Then I got into wines. Love wine. That was my drink of choice for a long time.

But then I really got into liquors.

First liquor I tried was cognac. I thought it tasted like something that had been run through a carburetor. But I kept trying it, and acquired a taste for it. Kelt's my favorite.

About a decade ago, I was over at a friend's house and he cracked opened a bottle of Glenfiddich. That was my first taste of fine whisky. I really started getting into scotch. For a long time, scotch was my go-to drink.

Then, I was having dinner with someone in a restaurant in Boston, and the guy paying for the dinner suggested we try bourbon. So I looked on the menu and ordered an EH Taylor Small Batch. Since then, even though I like all good quality whiskies, I'm really a bourbon guy.

Today, I own 81 bottles of bourbon, 29 bottles of American rye, 6 bottles of American single malts and whiskies, 43 bottles of scotch, and 20 bottles of Irish, Canadian, Indian and Taiwanese whiskies.
