Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says there is “absolutely no evidence” that the Affordable Care Act will drive down employment, despite a report from the Congressional Budget Office released Feb. 4 predicting fewer people would be working.

“There is absolutely no evidence, and every economist will tell you this, that there is any job-loss related to the Affordable Care Act,” Sebelius told reporters in Orlando, Fla., on Monday. “Part-time physicians are actually down since 2010, not up. The number of full-time workers continues to increase. I know that’s a popular myth that continues to be repeated but it just is not accurate.”

The CBO report said the health care law will cause Americans to cut their work hours, equating to 2 million fewer jobs in 2017. That number is predicted to eventually rise to the equivalent of 2.5 million jobs in 2024.

Ask all of the former nursing staff at hospitals everywhere what they think.
But you see, the White House just brushes that off that the hospitals are laying off for other reasons....just a coincidence you know.

She's right.

Wasn't this explained to you last week?

The CBO report said the health care law will cause Americans to cut their work hours, equating to 2 million fewer jobs in 2017. That number is predicted to eventually rise to the equivalent of 2.5 million jobs in 2024.

What that means is that 2.5 million workers will not have to stay at their jobs in order to get insurance. It does NOT mean that 2.5 million jobs will cease to exist, on the contrary, there will be 2.5 million job OPENINGS in the next 10 years as a result of the ACA.

Congratulations, that is the spin of the year.

and they vote, scary

Workers choosing to cut their hours to equal the same amount of hours as 2 million jobs, doesn't mean 2 million people lost their jobs.

This is the woman that presided over the launch of Hindenberg.gov so I would place arrogance and/or stupidity as far more likely than deliberate falsehood on her part. For example my wife retired from Mayo Jax two weeks ago along with numerous others in her department in order to get our health insurance grandfathered in. Is she or any other similar retirees listed as Ocare UE? No, even though most of them intend to go back to work at Mayo parttime after the required time off the job.

Dear Stephanie and Paperview:

yes and no.

I AGREE with Paperview that people leaving some jobs means opening these up to others.
Jobs aren't lost if they are going to other people instead.

However, where I work there WERE positions that closed down after the person left.
There WERE positions cut to part time and reductions in full time jobs.

You can argue this is "due to the economy," and not specifically caused by Obamacare.
But given the regulations, now all employers who make cuts will be FORCED to document changes as other reasons. So this will cover that up, and we won't know.

My argument still stands: these plans should still be voluntary in order to be fully Constitutional. As long as they are mandatory, they impose faith based unproven beliefs of supporters over the beliefs of others who are unethically penalized for not sharing this same faith. that is inherently unconstitutional to mandate faith-based policies under penalty for those who believe different which is not a crime. pushing mandates on the federal level requires consent and representation of the people who weren't (1) represented in the origin of the bill (2) allowed to vote on it by state (3) protected inclusively with equal freedom of choice to fund health care by other beliefs besides insurance mandates.

To correct this problem I suggest adding mandates that equal protect and represent others, such as (a) prolife people may add to the bill that the mandates must guarantee all people covered are prolife because we do not believe in federally funded abortion (b) I believe if you are going to impose a mandate, it should cover all people 100%, so it would require spiritual healing by all participants to maximize resources and minimize costs and waste.

If people are going to be under federal mandates, they should match their religious beliefs about health care for all people. Not pick one policy or method that doesn't "cover all people" and order all people to be under those terms. that is religious imposition, based on faith that is "the best way to do it" but not proven or chosen freely, where someone else believes otherwise and has equal right to fund and follow programs by their beliefs, too!

Just a lot of minds lost, general insanity, depression, anger and anxiety.
Time, energy and millions wasted fighting political and legal battles over this, which could have gone into reorganizing sustainable solutions that DO serve more of the population.

Loss of respect for the Democrat Party and prochoice advocates. That loss can be redeemed, and maybe come out better than before by the time these problems are fixed.

This is a silly mistake on the part of the administration, combined with IRS rulings attempting to forbid attribution to the ACA even the US effects of the Ukraine uprising will be blamed on the ACA.

Maybe we will see jobs increase in education and counseling. Like teaching all members of the Democrat Party what the Constitution is, and why we need to follow it to avoid conflicts and losses that could be prevented. By passing legislation by consent of the people where it involves issues of "personal choice" that cannot be mandated by federal government.

True, for hospitals that are still open. If we look at hospitals that were forced to shut down because of obamacare, then the casualty list would include the entire hospital.

A Georgia hospital is being forced to permanently close due to the sky-high costs of Obamacare.

CEO of the Lower Oconee Community Hospital in Glenwood, GA, told the Albany Herald that the hospital cannot continue to run because of the effects of Obamacare’s “payment cuts” for emergency services.

The hospital is located in Wheeler County, a rural area where 23 percent of its population is uninsured. It is the fourth Georgia hospital forced to close because of Obamacare.

Lots of luck with that.
