This is kind of also likely the difference between the criminal case and the civil case. The criminal case focuses on that event (and the subsequent events). The civil case will likely allow in more events prior to that. Of course it could likely allow more in about the others involved in the incident - the three shootees, and the person who fired the Glock.

Deadly force is deadly force and is only deadly when actual force is applied to the point of death.

Just possessing a weapon is not deadly force. A firearm has the potential to be used as a deadly force but then, so does a baseball bat, knife, razor blade and your own fists.

Rittenhouse was attacked with a skateboard and a plastic bag. Neither are deadly weapons. Rittenhouse, on the otherhand, brought a deadly weapon to a protest that was none of his business! He brought that weapon to shoot somebody! Those murders were premeditated.

Rittenhouse was attacked AND HIT with a four-foot-long skateboard shaped club. The kind of weight and leverage an object that large gives could easily crack open a skull or crush bones. That skateboard had more weight and leverage than a baseball bat and any number of people have been convicted of ADW when using baseball bats.
