L.A. Launches Nation's First Israel Divestment Campaign

Those Marines weren't murdered, baby killer.

They were in the wrong place at the right time.

It should have been Reagan Sharon, and Arafat who died.

Georgie boy, the 300 Marineswere slaughtered by Hezballah in a terrorist bombing in the army barracks in Beirut. Now, you ugly motherfucker, where are your posts demanding they be brought to justice?

Killing foreign troops is perfectly legal. It is not terrorism.

You need to get your propaganda straight.

Wrong, again, dopey. It is a flagrant violation of international law to fight out of uniform and without arms in full view, the practice of Hezballah.

Hezballah is not a standing army.

For this reason, the US State Dept designates Hezballah as a terrorist faction.

Now, you know, moron.

I can't speak for the third grade name callers in our state department.

You're so dumb, it isn't even funny.

"The Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) has an increasing trade deficit with Israel, which reached 44% of gross national income (GNI) in 2008, the latest year for which trade data is available.3

"The total Palestinian trade deficit was 55% of GNI. Comparing these two numbers shows that Palestinians are dependent on the Israeli economy for trade and even for most of their consumption.

"It is an unsustainable situation for any economy to carry a trade deficit that is about half the volume of the economy for an extensive period of time.

"When a country has a trade deficit, it means that money is flowing out of the country. If these money flows are not compensated by other sources, wealth will flow out of the country.

"Mainstream economic theory says that the local currency will then devalue,4 making it more expensive to import foreign goods and services while other countries will find it relatively cheap to import goods from this country.

"According to mainstream theory, this situation would eventually lead to a stabilized trade balance.

"In practice, however, it is not that simple because exchange rates are also used as political instruments. Exchange rates are much less flexible than theory assumes. So, in practice this is not a useful "tool" to deal with a trade deficit."

71% of Aid...

The quickest way to kill Israeli apartheid is based in Belgium where the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) facilitates Israel's ability to "...pay for imports or to receive payment for exports."

"The Israeli government may consider itself to be militarily and diplomatically invincible, given support from the United States, and other governments, but Israel’s economy is exceptionally dependent upon international trade.

"It is thus very vulnerable to financial retaliation.

"South Africa’s apartheid government had also believed itself to be immune from foreign pressure."

Jews living on sovereign Jewish land does not constitute occupation, Georgie.

Open a law book, dummy.

Provide a link, Poseur.

Georgie, your picture is illustrated in the dictionary next to the word poseur.

Palestine Mandate...
Whereas recognition has thereby been given to the historical connection of the Jewish people with Palestine and to the grounds for reconstituting their national home in that country; and

Palestine Mandate...
The Administration of Palestine, while ensuring that the rights and position of other sections of the population are not prejudiced, shall facilitate Jewish immigration under suitable conditions and shall encourage, in co-operation with the Jewish agency referred to in Article 4, close settlement by Jews on the land, including State lands and waste lands not required for public purposes.

Go to mommy, Georgie, it's feeding time.

UNSCR 242

Time for you (and mama) to climb into an observation tower and SNIPE a couple of twelve year olds.

Princeton Poseur.

Georgie, poseur, UN Res 242 is not even binding. LOL

Thus, UN Res. 242 does not supercede the binding Palestine Mandate establishing Palestine as the Jewish homeland.

Georgie gets smacked down, again. Go to mommy, Georgie.

"On Wednesday, September 8th, at a noon press conference in Los Angeles in front of the Israeli Consulate, the California Israel Divestment Campaign, a culturally diverse group of compassionate Americans announced the launch of California ballot initiative 10-0020 to require public employee systems to divest from certain business activities in Israel. In its first official announcement, the California Israel Divestment Campaign (IDC) delivered the following explanation:

“Although California has adopted policies requiring divestment from Sudan, Iran and other nations, this is the first ballot measure in the nation aimed at changing Israeli policies through divestment by State agencies. It directs California’s large public employee and teacher pension funds to be consistent with their responsible investing policies and to divest from companies that violate the human rights of Palestinians."

Listen to the words of a Jew whose family has lived in the region for nine generations:

"Sometimes it takes a good friend to tell you when enough is enough. As they did with South Africa two decades ago, concerned citizens across the US can make a difference by encouraging Washington to get the message to Israel that this cannot continue."

The author of those words, Jonathan Ben Artzi, nephew to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaks as someone who's seen a lifetime of Israel's abuse of Palestinians.

At least 434,000 registered California voters will have to sign a petition to qualify 10-0020 for voter approval.

"If the requisite number of signatures is gathered, the initiative will appear on the next statewide ballot after March, 2011."

Enough is enough.

Los Angeles Launches....

Nice gesture....but the USA has a bi-annual billion or dollars funneled to Israel via our Federal gov't. Mind you, it's a hell of a lot more than money sent to any other country on a regular basis.....so no matter how many corporations divest, the State Dept. is the primary money man.

And, 75% of that US aid to Israel must, by law, be reinvested with US defense contractors, so, it remains in the US economy.

Israelis purchased $20 billion in American goods last year, making Israel one of the US's largest export markets.

Thus, Israel is not only America's closest and most reliable ally, Israel is also a lucrative one.

Ahhh, but the devil is in the details:

This report provides an overview of U.S. foreign assistance to Israel. It includes a review of past aid programs, data on annual assistance, and an analysis of current issues. For general information on Israel, see CRS Report RL33476, Israel: Background and Relations with the United States, by Carol Migdalovitz. For information on overall U.S. assistance to the Middle East, see CRS Report RL32260, U.S. Foreign Assistance to the Middle East: Historical
Background, Recent Trends, and the FY2011 Request, by Jeremy M. Sharp.

Israel is the largest cumulative recipient of U.S. foreign assistance since World War II. From 1976-2004, Israel was the largest annual recipient of U.S. foreign assistance, having since been supplanted by Iraq. Since 1985, the United States has provided nearly $3 billion in grants annually to Israel.

Almost all U.S. bilateral aid to Israel is in the form of military assistance. In the past, Israel also had received significant economic assistance. Strong congressional support for Israel has resulted in Israel’s receiving benefits not available to other countries. For example, Israel can use some U.S. military assistance both for research and development in the United States and for military purchases from Israeli manufacturers. In addition, all U.S. foreign assistance earmarked for Israel is delivered in the first 30 days of the fiscal year. Most other recipients normally receive aid in installments. Congress also appropriates funds for joint U.S.-Israeli missile defense programs.

In August 2007, the Bush Administration announced that it would increase U.S. military
assistance to Israel by $6 billion over the next decade. The agreement calls for incremental annual increases in Foreign Military Financing (FMF) to Israel, reaching $3 billion a year by FY2011.

For FY2011, the Obama Administration requested $3 billion in FMF to Israel. According to the State Department’s FY2011 budget justification for Foreign Operations, “U.S. assistance will help ensure that Israel maintains its qualitative military edge over potential threats, and prevent a shift in the security balance of the region. U.S. assistance is also aimed at ensuring for Israel the security it requires to make concessions necessary for comprehensive regional peace.”

After years of negotiation, the United States and Israel announced in August 2010 that Israel will purchase 20 F-35s at a cost of $2.75 billion, which will be paid for entirely with FMF grants. The first planes are scheduled to be delivered in 2015, though the deal is still pending final approval by the Israeli cabinet.

Repeating yourself won't change the FACTS of the excerpt I provided...which essentially renders your statement (of which you do not offer any validation for) questionable at best.

Also note by your statement $20 billion is distributed to 5 different countries....Israel STILL comes out ahead, with a lions take in armament funding.

My solution: Cut ALL the funding to EVERYONE, get our home situation in order, THEN go back to the drawing board.
