Lake Mead property owners forced out until shutdown ends

This is what happens when Republicans shut down the government.

His Majesty, Obama is making the decisions as to what is shutdown and what is not. His goal is to punish, then 'rescue' the public from Republicans.

Obama is a goddamned Marxist!

You are just too much in love with him to realize the truth!

You forget that this country is based on the good of most political ideologies.

Marxism: Abolish child labor and free education

Socialism: Who's going to pay for the streetlights?

Joyce Spencer is 77-years-old and her husband Ralph is 80. They've been spending most of their time in the family ice cream store since going home isn't an option.

The Spencers never expected to be forced out of their Lake Mead home, which they've owned since the 70s, but on Thursday, a park ranger said they had 24 hours to get out.
Obama has gone way to far!!!

Yup, Obama forced the Spencers out.

Idiot.

Boehner can end this any time he wishes.

Bit it is their whole point - to make people SUFFER to score imaginable political points.
they think people can't remember the previous shutdowns and can't compare and make conclusions that it is the government forcefully making them suffer, not because of the shutdown.

the arrogance and simultaneous stupidity of the left is stunning

How Has the Government Shutdown Affected You? | The White House
How Has the Government Shutdown Affected You?

Congress has two jobs to do: pass a budget and pay its bills. But earlier this week, Congress failed to pass legislation to fund the government, and now many vital services are shut down. So, we want to hear: How has the government shutdown affected you?
"The White House just kicked you in the balls...but it's CONGRESS' fault. Tell us how much it hurts!"

From the article:

The government shutdown is being felt close to home for some locals. They say they're being forced out of private homes on Lake Mead because they sit on federal land.

On KY Lake which is a TVA Lake houses have to be at least 10 feet above federal property. I would never build a house on land I did not own.

do you think that just because you have a title that labels you owner you really own it any more than any other renter?

Anytime parks, monuments, and recreation areas on government land are closed, visitors have to leave. This includes people that own vacation homes on government land, campers, and people staying in lodges, and concessionaires. The park service is responsible for the health and safety of visitors as well as the protection of government property. To allow visitors to remain after closure would be irresponsible.
Parks are closed but obamacare is open for business? Well, sort of.

Does obamacare have a provision to provide for people put out of their homes by the Executive branch?

To be fair, while it is their home, according to the article, it's a vacation home on federal land. But yes, it's fucking stupid.

People "own" the "rental rights" to land, the government owns the soil, if not the feds the states. Guess who has the highest title?

Of course it is the Democrats fault for not giving in to the Republicans and defunding the ACA. You people are comical. I hope the Republicans get bitch slapped so bad next election that they lose control of the House. It would serve them right.

How can someone build a private home on Public land?

Remember.. Anything that is "owned" by the Federal Government is owned by the Public. It's not private property.

Exactly. I'm guessing they may have gotten the land 'licensed' for something, a business of some kind and built the home to be part of it. A lot of people do that. Here, nobody builds on government land. The marinas and docks are private and on government land but their land is limited in size and has a licensing agreement kind of like a rental agreement but without the rent.
The Corps of Engineers owns Lake Barkley. Lots of private land around it, but property owners are required to file for shoreline permits if they want to put a dock out into public waters.

You should place blame where it belongs....the Republicans.

I would if I were a blindly partisan jackass, unable to think for myself.

But when I consider that the Republicans have voted on and passed many different bills which would have funded 99.99% of the Government and the Democats and Obama have refused to even bring them to a vote....

Then the shut down belongs to Obama and the Democrats. They are the ones refusing to fund the Government, not the Republicans.

You forget that I'm a rich Republican. I'm just letting you in on the truth, cause I've got nothing to sell.
You forget that no one believes you're rich or a Republican.

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The government shutdown is being felt close to home for some locals. They say they're being forced out of private homes on Lake Mead because they sit on federal land.

"I had to go to town today and buy Ralph undershirts and jeans because I forgot his pants," Joyce Spencer told Action News.

The Stewart's Point home sits on federal land, so even though the Spencers own their cabin outright, they're not allowed in until the government reopens.

Park officials said property owners can visit only to retrieve belongings; they sent Action News a statement which reads in part, "Unfortunately overnight stays are not permitted until a budget is passed and the park can reopen."

Joyce Spencer said she's alright in the meantime, staying with nearby family, but the move was a lot to handle as a senior citizen.

"I had to be sure and get his walker and his scooter that he has to go in," Spencer said. "We're not hurt in any way except it might cost me if I have to go buy more pants."

The Lake Mead properties are considered vacation homes; one of the lease requirements to own a plot is people must have an alternative residence.

Regardless, the Spencers said it's their property and they should be allowed in, shutdown or not.

Federal Gov't kicking you out of your own home. Hmm

I could care less what you or anyone believe.

Based on evidence, the only reason that Republicans are against ACA, Obamacare, National Health Care, is the rich aren't getting a bigger chunk than the middle class.

Think about it. ACA provides voter registration which is BAD for Republicans.

Republicans want reduced environmental regulation which is GOOD for the rich, especially the Koch (teabagger money) Brothers with that mess in Michigan.

With ACA, insurance companies will be mandated 80% of their premiums collected toward claims which is BAD for the rich.

The lease stipulates that they have alternative residences in the event of a total park closure. Their homes are designated as "Vacation Homes". They do not own the land. They were given heavily restricted leases with easements provided by the Government.

Man I own one of those Lake Mead Lots. I bought it from an elderly neighbor who needed cash back in 1997 for $3,500. This is going to destroy my property value.
