Cop haters like the OP actually don't believe cops have the right to defend themselves. When I saw the term "mentally ill" at first I thought the OP was talking about himself. In fact I still think that.

They think mental illness somehow makes a person immune from force. If anything. ..mental illness makes them MORE dangerous. Most mass killers have been mentally ill.

A common sane criminal knows what the deal is. Cop arrests him. He gets a plea deal. He kills the cop. He gets life.

But the mentally ill? A cop may approach them to arrest them for something. And the whacko sees a purple lizard Hitler alien with laser hands coming to dissect him for an experiment...and thinks he must escape or kill the alien lizard Hitler.

But...the cops must hug them.
