Legal to eat pets - Thank the NRA

You do realize the delicacy dove is actually a pigeon, right? Obviously someone needs to explain that to Colbert. That's why he is known as a comedian.
Stephen Colbert butchers the NRA for killing bill that banned the eating of puppies and kittens

On last night’s episode of The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert went after the National Rifle Association for its role in killing a Pennsylvania bill that banned the breeding of cats and dogs for meat.

“The kitten-coddlers out there don’t want you to eat your pets,” he began. “‘That’s illegal,’ they say. But not everywhere — you can have a dog for dinner in Pennsylvania thanks to the NRA.”

Colbert then cut to a clip from WPVI, in which the reporter said, “this all started after a small number of butcher shops in Pennsylvania started selling dog and cat meat. In response, House Bill 1750, designed to outlaw the human consumption of household pets was quickly put together. But the NRA opposed the bill, and it never got voted on.”

“We did it!” Colbert shouted. “It’s still legal in Pennsylvania to serve cat and dog meat! So you’re safe for now, White Castle.”

“Now, I don’t always agree with the NRA, but I do. Especially about why this bill had to die,” he said, before cutting back to WPVI, which stated the reason the bill was killed was that an amendment was added to ban live pigeon shooting.

“Now, I imagine that shooting a pigeon on the ground might seem like shooting fish in a barrel,” Colbert said. “But there’s a big difference — fish don’t scream.”

“According to the NRA’s website, banning the time-honored tradition of shooting captive pigeons ‘might begin the slide down a slippery slope,’ and ‘the next stop will be regulated shooting grounds.’ That’s right, in order to protect their right to kill birds, the NRA defeated the anti-pet-eating bill.”

“It’s a hard, but noble sacrifice,” Colbert continued. “But dogs and cats must die, in order that the pigeons may die too.”

Why not just ban the killing/eating of cats and dogs, and don't bother people who eat pigeons?

Problem solved.

Both pigeon and dove provide delicious meat that can be wrapped in bacon and grilled, etc.

I grew up on a farm. Had a pet calf. Ended up eating it.

Yummy.

Then they wouldn't have anything they could try to blame the NRA for.

I don't think they eat the pigeons at pigeons shoots.

That was the point.

I am neutral, I wouldn't go to a pigeon shoot, or mourn a bunch of dead pigeons.

Fuckin' winged rats if you ask me.

A dove is a type of pigeon. You outlaw pigeon, you can then expect them to conclude it is banned as well. As Wake said, make it the exception, then no problems will come from some wanting to misinterpret its original meaning by the likes of those with another agenda, such as peta.

Well, I have never eaten dog or cat, at least not yet. But I have eaten horse, and it was quite good. All mammals are edible with proper safeguards.

I have eaten cat quite a lot in Asia. Tastes like rabbit (another warm fuzzy pet).

Never eaten cat - but I grew up hunting (and eating) rabbit and squirrel, as well as Deer, Elk, Raccoon, Possum, and, while stationed at Fort Hood, ate a Armadillo (which was pretty damned good!) :)

The best meat I've ever had was mountain lion. Never had armadillo but raccoon isn't too bad either. Depends on what they are feeding on. Tree squirrels taste good, but ground squirrels not so much. Especially from the Coastal Range area of California, they taste really awful!

Polar bear is surprisingly like beef.

Seal, however, just confuses hell outta the palate. Chews like grass-fed beef; tastes like really overripe fish.

But, hey, those aren't pets......

Though I once knew a fella who kept a spotted owl as a pet before it destroyed his furniture and he had to do something about it.

He was both a neat freak AND very environmentally conscious so he couldn't just bear to waste good food.......

Elk liver with butter fried onions.....uh huh.

After I retired from the Army, I went to work for a company in Kansas City and we had a lot of drivers from Missouri who worked there. One day, this young blood comes in with a platter of fried food. I was sitting in my office and asked him what he had...this young guy, being a typical young guy says "Well sir, why don't you try one of these and tell me what it is?? So I get up from my desk, walk into the next room, grab three or four of these delectable delights, pop them in my mouth and eat them. A couple of the other drivers present start gagging and heaving and the young guy says - DAMN! The old guy just ate...and I stopped him. I said "I know what mountain oysters are son - been eating them on my Grandfathers farm since I was a kid".

I looked him in the eye and said, "Got any more?" Youngblood made a fool out of himself.

I grew up on blood sausage, head cheese, Liverwurst and the like. Hell, mountain oysters were a staple in every farmer's diet back in the day. Waste not - want not. Oh, and yes, I also routinely ate "Chitlins" or chitterlings - pig guts. Quite good with a couple of eggs! :)

And, for the record - I DESPISE watermelon......

The NRA spends many millions of dollars seeing that we do not have rational gun laws in this nation. They have done much harm to the nation.

This was a typical liberal attach more to the bill. Had it remained dogs and cats, it would have passed.

The post indicates a couple of things, First of all it's true that the radical left get's it's news from the comedy channel. The second thing is that they are so ignorant that they really think the NRA makes or vetoes laws in a freaking blue state or anywhere else.

Puddly Pillowbite is particularly stupid, even as leftists go.

YMMV
