The local newspaper in my city recently reduced the allowable word count in letters-to-the-editor because of a spate of well-written letters supporting the results of the recent presidential election as opposed to a lot of boring, poorly written and hackneyed pieces cobbled together in a Dick-and-Jane format from disappointed Democrats. It was an embarrassment so they had to act. Below is my letter to that newspaper. I have X'd out the name of the publication as well as the city.

Letter:

People from different generations often see the world very differently. Baby boomers grew up in a time when people actually raised and supported their own children and biological families were a ubiquitous stabilizing influence. Many Boomers were in high school when Lyndon Johnson unleashed his Great Society along with the War on Poverty supplanting our culture with a full blown example of everything our forefathers warned us against. The disease of centrally planned government metastasized like a plague in our society changing it forever.

The devastating results are everywhere you look but nowhere are they more evident than in the field of education. Sadly the carnage of political correctness has produced a state of affairs where the average college-educated Democrat in the US can barely read the contents of a restaurant menu and they struggle to string together enough coherent sentences to manufacture a respectable grocery list let alone any kind of persuasive or cogent argument in written form. Little wonder that a college degree these days carries no more weight than a participation trophy.

Tragically many colleges in America are just turning out semi-literate Manchurian candidates for the Democratic Party. The staff and administrators of these institutions lock themselves behind a bullet-proof wall of tax-supported public sector unions pushing worthless idiosyncratic designer courses while the kids who attend school leave with a big bill for a student loan they may never pay back because they’re not trained to do anything society finds useful. Transgender bathrooms notwithstanding it’s important to be able to read with comprehension and use language to articulate a point in writing especially if you want a job better than handing out bags at a fast-food restaurant.

The city of XXXXX already has a local radio station that is nothing more than a megaphone for tax-loving petty officials and political hacks. Now the local newspaper is shortening its editorial page because the opinions it is getting do not reflect its bedridden narrative of government dependence. The XXXXXXXX should reexamine its political positions. It should acknowledge a serious system failure resulting in an inability of the people it is trying to reach to properly grasp the written word. Instead it seems to dismiss those with differing opinions as Luddite malcontents while it shrinks the playing field to limit discussion.

Outcome based education has produced a bleak outcome for newspapers who support Democrats. Welcome to the information age.
