Liberals have claimed the last few days that the NRA is responsible for the Orlando shooter having guns, that the NRA has fought laws preventing those on terrorist watch lists from having guns. It's not the NRA in this case. It's the fruitcakes controlling congress that won't allow it. And it has nothing to do with public safety. It has to do with "Obama wants it". The same bunch tried to get a law that allowed convicted felons to own guns as well. I don't know why they tried to do that, the Reps already have the majority of the convicted felons votes already. It's more complicated than that. If the FBI has somebody on a "watch list" (which the Orlando shooter was not) -- They may not WANT the perp to KNOW he/she is being watched. It could compromise the entire investigation. Attempting a gun is a simple way for terrorists to TELL if they are on the watch list. FBI won't ACKNOWLEDGE that you are on the Watch List and there is virtually no redress to get yourself off of it. That's because it loses effectiveness -- if the public is given access to it.

It works properly RIGHT NOW.. Because the FBI OWNs the Insta-Check system and they OWN the "watch list". So they KNOW if anyone on the watch list is attempting to buy.. Should be UP TO THEM (in an ideal world where govt actually operated with any kind of excellence) - whether the purchase goes thru or not...

The better fix is that if the FBI "closes" a terror case file -- that person gets on the NSA list for special intelligence. Maybe for 2 or 5 years. Don't just CLOSE these cases based on "legal evidence". Target THESE folks for NSA scrutiny -- not ALL of us.
