First, the polls really weren't that wrong. The only state they got VERY wrong was Wisconsin. Every other state that Trump won they said was going to be close.

So let's look at what happened in 2016.

1) There was a concensus that Hillary had it in the bag.
2) There was the media trying to be "balanced" by bringing up that stupid email shit every time Trump got caught doing something to be "Balanced"
so...
3) A lot of people felt they could either stay home or vote for third parties because, heck, Hillary had this but I want to show how special I am.

To put it another way, Trump didn't really perform any better than Mitt Romney did in 2012. He got 46% of the vote compared to 47% received by Romney. He didn't even do as well with white people, getting 57% compared to 59% of the white vote.

Nope, Hillary lost because too many people stayed home or voted third party. That's simply not going to happen again. A Trump presidency isn't an abstraction anymore, it's a real life horror show that has left tens of thousands dead and millions with their lives disrupted.

Furthermore, Biden doesn't have anywhere near Hillary's negatives. People LIKE Biden on a personal basis.

If elections are won on the factor of who you'd like to go have a beer with, most of us would rather have a beer with Joe.

That is not true. Thje fact is that voters hated both candidates. Third pqarty candidates also drew a fairly large number of voters. That made forecasting tricky.
