Looks Like Ford Is Feeling The Heat

The #2 automaker in the world is now dead? Maybe Toyota will be next

The jap carmakers are now going through what GM went through in the 90's....aging work force, plants that need to be retrofitted, growing healthcare and pension costs. So they're outsourcing just like we did, looking for slave labor and when that happens, quality is a forgotten word. Toyoda (the correct spelling) isn't nearly as dominant as they once were....millennials hate the Gen Xers, what they wear, their music, what they drive. Changes are coming and we can recapture the car market if we play our cards right.
With Government motors?

Why doesn't Obama place a penalty on everyone who does not by a GM vehicle and hire a bunch of IRS agents to collect that penalty?

Why would he meet with Trump after just stating a couple of weeks ago that Trump shouldn't impose tariffs on his company? Sounds like he's worried to me.

I guess for you right wingers (and paraphrasing the old adage), "when you're drowning, even a twig looks like a floating device."

The OP indicates no changes whatsoever in Ford's plans to optimize their profits by producing small cars in Mexico, where they are much more popular than they are in the US. Yet, the Trumpettes as so desperate for any Trump credibility, the mere fact that Ford talked to Trump indicates to them that Trump's awsome influence has Ford's knees shaking.

Also, for reason's of ignorance, the Trumpettes have no clue as to the downhill chaos that a tariff would cause of independent Ford Dealership across the nation, and their 10's of thousands of employees, as well as Ford suppliers, employees, and stockholders. in fact, they seem to be wringing their hands in glee at the thought of putting hundreds of thousands of Americans out of work by destroying Ford.

But it is all rhetoric, anyway, since the president has no power to slap a tariff on anybody. Somehow, that got lost in Trump's hyperbili.

Let the Mexicans buy the Ford cars. The dealerships can adjust. It is Ford who is putting Americans out of work by moving to Mexico and building a modern plant there. We can do just fine without Ford if they wish to go to Mexico.

You are obviously not impressed that:
1. Ford is owned by people all over the world, not just Americans
2. Ford sells more cars in foreign countries that they sell in the USA
3. Ford states, even in the link in the OP, that no Americans jobs will be lost because of these new plants being built in Mexico
4. Trump's clothing line is manufactured in Mexico.
5. Ford's primary responsibilities is to their shareholders, who demand that management maximize profit on their investment, and
6. What Ford is doing is capitalism on a global scale, which is what has driven this country's economy from the beginning, and what separates us from socialistic countries where the economy is geared to benefit the workers.

Oh, and lest we forget, parts for these cars are manufactured all over the world, anyway, and all this is doing is changing where robots assemble these foreign made parts.

It's understandable that the low information under-educated anarchy left doesn't understand much about capitalism other than what they glean from left wing blog sites but I'm sure Ford stands to profit from Trump's presidency just as every other high profile American corporation does.

No, I am not impressed at all. I haven't purchased nor driven a Ford product in 50 years. I get by just fine without them. For my part, they can move their truck manufacturing out of the country as well.

Trump doesn't have a clothing line. Trump is just like Cindy Crawford and a lot of others. Trump's name is what he markets. Surely you have sense enough to know that.

Let Ford be responsible to their shareholders. That's fine and dandy. I am not responsible for Ford however.
I'll bet you are all in the tank for Hillary and Obama shutting down the coal industry in this country though.

Here is a little Ford trivia. Ford was already building Model T's in Russia, when the Russian Revolution began in 1917. Ford plants were converted to make god-knows-what after that, since Ford shut down the plants because of the revolution. They are not, and never have been, in business to give American's jobs.

I know. It is just terrible how Hillary and Obama shut down the entire market for coal in the united states. Probably one of those Executive Orders he issued demanding that trains burn diesel instead of coal....

I'm beginning to think that we have some posters who are competing to become soviet commissar of Trump's National Chamber of Commerce.

Actually, you bring out what I consider one of the more cruel of Trump's assertion to voters......The charlatan told coal workers that he would bring back their lost jobs which is TOTAL bullshit....promising something that can NEVER be delivered.
Heck, even the conservative push for the XL pipeline is a coal mining job killer.

Well, I guess that it has nothing to do with economic reality, including the fact that coal furnaces have not been put into new homes since the early 1950's.

That's your biased opinion. Actually, all he has to do is roll back some harsh regulations and the industry will revive itself.

Well, if you are indeed beginning to THINK, then we have made some progress.

Actually people like you and your ilk would defend Pol Pot if the son of a bitch told you that he hated Obama and Clinton...
Just admit it, not to me, but to yourself....

Suck it up. Everyone doesn't agree with your Liberal Communist views.

Come on, tell the truth. You got your Bachelors in Economics through the mail from Devry University, right?
