Majority of Americans favor wealth tax on very rich: Reuters/Ipsos poll

WASHINGTON/NEW YORK (Reuters) - The idea of imposing a wealth tax on the richest Americans has elicited sharply divergent views across a spectrum of politicians, with President Donald Trump branding it socialist and progressive Democratic presidential contenders Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders prominently endorsing it.

Among the 4,441 respondents to the poll, 64% strongly or somewhat agreed that “the very rich should contribute an extra share of their total wealth each year to support public programs” - the essence of a wealth tax. Results were similar across gender, race and household income. While support among Democrats was stronger, at 77%, a majority of Republicans, 53%, also agreed with the idea.

If this is true, then the experiment called the United States of America as we know it is done....
Socialist countries like Sweeden, and others tried this, and it failed, driving business out of their countries. They had to rescind these taxes and scale back the "free stuff" they were offering everyone, so why are American voters stupid enough to implement policies which failed everywhere else?

Because we don't learn....Socalists don't believe that it failed, only that the other countries must not have done it right....

You are aware that Sweden has a 70% top tax rate, right? They have not rolled anything back.

It's hard to compete against Santa Clause. Vote buying is a strategy that's been used by the left since I've been on this planet. Keep voting for us, and not only will we keep giving you X, we promise to give you more. Free college, free healthcare, free paid time off and so forth.
You think Democrats are the only ones that buy votes?

I don't, but they certainly the most prolific....
Trump is running a trillion dollar deficit right now in a good economy at full unemployment. That’s about as prolific as it gets.

Trump isn't running anything to do with the debt....The House is...

That’s objectively not true. The president has signed every tax and spending bill for the last 3 years. He takes credit for spending large sums on the military, for avoiding cuts to entitlements, and for cutting taxes. Be real.

"The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defense and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;"

- Article 1 Section 8

Show me where that says the President? In fact tell me what the bolded part there says....

Trump does not sign the spending bills?

Are you sure about that? plus I am willing to bet you gave Obama all the blame for the debt under him

It's political crap, and when I was debating on a different site, I also pointed out that the Congress holds the purse....Now, it is true that Trump could refuse to sign the bills into law, but then, you'd be in here bashing him for a Government shutdown....Be real....

we tell people to work hard for their success, then when they do and find ways to "win" this game of life, we penalize them for it.

seems like a huge contradiction.
.

That is sort of how I feel about all this talk of breaking up companies that have become too "big",
yea. there are times i want to show FACEBOOK who's boss and have them broken up - but like you, i've always been let the market decide. if you think something can be better, then it's opportunity. so i put facebook to where it fits in my life, use it to keep track of family and friends, and nothing else. i won't even speak about politics on there anymore.

in the end, i get the "rage at the machine" - but you can't break up others success cause it makes you angry. but you can start your own world to beat it.

or learn to live within it.

I grew up going to Catholic school until the eight grade. I was an altar boy for crying out loud. I do know what I'm talking about. The Bible is not to be taken literally. It is God's will to help out your fellow human being. But it does not mean to follow step by step to what people did hundreds of years ago to help the poor. No priest would suggest driving yourself into poverty to help the poor, or taking strangers into your home these days.

Do the Catholics teach that the Bible is not to be taken literally?

Yes, that is what they teach. Otherwise we would be like the Islamists who kill anybody that isn't a Christian themselves. Slavery would be legal since God sanctioned that as well. We just don't do the same things today that they did many years ago.

Wow, they have changed. I am old enough to remember when they said the juice and cracker were actually the blood and body of Christ.

Funny how religions change through the ages but their religious text have not.

Well why do you think we have so many different religions all stemming from one book? Each religion has different beliefs. If we all followed the Bible literally, then there would only be Christianity and that's it. But Christians have at least a half-dozen religions that I'm aware of, and there are probably more than that.

The Bible is sort of like the Constitution. Things that were written long ago have to be interpreted and followed according to the times. God's and Jesus message was to help out those who could not help themselves. Unfortunately today, we help out a lot of people who can help themselves. Plus we help out in different ways than many years ago.

So, Trump should base his actions on what I am going to say about him?

Also, we had long shutdown a year ago, do you recall me bashing him over it?

I wasn't in here a year ago, at least not regularly...So, you could literally say anything about that time frame and I wouldn't know...And frankly, you're not interesting enough for me to waste time researching....

Thus lies the problem with all religions. They are nothing more than the opinion of the day, they none stay true to the actual text they are based off of.

Because in trying to justify increasing taxation in the United states, Gator felt it necessary to tell me that Sweeden's high tax rate was 70%...So, if higher taxes are what he seeks, maybe he would be happier there...Please try and keep up...
