So...do you think he'll win the election or will it go to newcomer Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch? She happens to be Stephen Colbert's older sister BTW.

I think Mark Sanford is toast.

What does it say that the Republicans gave him the nomination?

I'm kinda shocked he won the runoff.

Mark Sanford wins Republican runoff in South Carolina

So he's forgiven?

I don't know that is says anymore about the right than it says about the left when elect or reelect politicians caught up in affairs and scandals.

LIKE WHO?

Anyway....THIS thread is about REPUBLICAN Mark Sanford and the Republicans of South Carolina that elected him.

Any thoughts on that sir?

If they want to elect him, they can feel free to. He is their representative, not mine.

Nice dodge.

Just pretend its another Democrat you don't like, then you'll be free to criticize with abandon.

What are your thoughts on it sir?

Of course you think he will lose when he is nearly assured a victory. He cheated on his wife and they did forgive him. He was once a hell of a leader and politician. Funny you hold it against him, yet I bet you say JFK (who I think was a hell of a President in his short time) and Clinton were great Presidents.

Mark Sanford could very well win based on name recognition.

Busch should be able to win with the slogan "I'm not Mark Sanford."

I live in south carolina, and I know nothing about him anymore. Also by his past decisions I wouldn't vote for him to hold any office. One thing i'm sure of you would vote for clinton again.

Bill Clinton comes to mind and please don't pretend like you didn't know about or remember his affairs as for the Republicans of South Carolina he ask for their forgiveness and a second chance and they choose to give it to him and that is pretty much all I have to say about it.

I thought it was about both candidates.

:clap2: Great topic Marc. I happen to live in Charleston, SC, which is the main metro area in this particular district Sanford is running for. Charleston metro is also the ONLY county that Obama won in the whole state I believe. And it is long known as the lone blue area in a dark red state.

Elizabeth Colbert is the brother of Stephen Colbert. Stephen "Cole-bear" is beloved in Charleston. He is from here, born and raised, and returns very often. He'll obviously campaign for her hard. Joe Biden was just in town helping fund raise for her. Internal polling shows she is up 48-43.

Republicans in this state preach family values, low taxes, more guns. So, we'll see how much they support a guy who cheated on his wonderful wife, flew to South America on taxpayer money (and lied to us about it) to cheat on her, and did NOTHING about SC's horrible violent crime rate.

This would be a major coup for the Democrats to pick off a district in red state SC. This district hasn't gone to the Dems since the 70's. But, the tide is turning fast. The metro areas of Charleston and Greenville are both heavy with transplants, and the natives are far more progressive than the rural areas of the state. Columbia also to an extent. But, this district is the coastal area. Tim Scott's old seat.

Elizabeth Colbert is running a good campaign down here. I'll vote for her.

Oh, and dont be surprised he won the GOP bid. If any of you had been down here for the past 3 months of campaigning, you'd be sick of all of them, and not shocked at all Sanford won.

The Republican candidates were fucking d-bags. Pure red meat, no substance. "Lower taxes, more God, less gays, less abortion, more guns" was basically the them.

One idiot ran the same commercial over and over where it shows him on a front porch with an extremely prototypical looking Tea Partier saying "I just think Obama is up there running us into a socialist government; And I want you to interrupt it".

May as well have been a stream of rednecks yelling "YEEEEHAAAW!!!", then Sanford winning the vote.

I donating to Colbert. The beginning of a long death for the GOP in South Caroilna. It will be long though. Aside from the Charleston/coastal areas, SC is pretty much redneck heaven.

Anyone who defends him, or votes for him--Republican or Democrat--is an idiot.

So the "Hero of The Templar Order" has spoken, so it shall be observed.

Seriously, dude, your location says Georgia, you have no vote in South Carolina, same as MarcATL. You can dislike it all you want to, but you can't control the available candidates in other states.

Speaking of SC, where is Alvin Greene?

HAHA!!! Yes, I forgot all about that guy!!!

Well, see my last post, the "long death" of the Republican party. Thanks to SC's near dead last education system (Thanks Republicans for decades of that), we have some really stupid people who will vote for just about anybody. See: Alvin Greene.

Outside of the Charleston and Greenville metro areas, SC is basically a bunch of yeehaw rednecks and very poor black folk. So as long as this GOP dominated state keeps up it's history of feeding the yeehaws the political red meat, and keeping the black folks uneducated through horrible public schools, they'll keep winning elections in this state for a while.

BUT, this particluar one is mostly the Lowcountry area, Charleston, which is far more center, or even center-left. I think Liz Colbert wins it.

You do realize that Alvin Greene was the DEMOCRAT candidate, don't you?.
Now why would republicans want the state population so dumbed down that they voted opposite of their party?

But then, you also make statements like this, "SC is basically a bunch of yeehaw rednecks and very poor black folk.". Your bigotry is showing when you state things like that.

and your bringing up Alvin Greene ... isn't.

the best chance Liz Colbert has of winning is the opportunity to campaign against Sanford.
