McCarthy: GOP Must Retake House for Tax Cuts 2.0 to Advance
QUOTE: The White House and lawmakers are working together for a tax cuts plan that will help the middle class, but it's important that Republicans take control of the House to make "tax cuts 2.0" work, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Wednesday.
"You know how great this economy is," the California Republican told Fox Business' Maria Bartiromo. "Remember, not one Democrat voted (for the tax cuts) and because of that, some were not able to be made permanent, so we need to make those permanent."
President Donald Trump also wants to look at areas where the middle class can be helped further, McCarthy said. "This economy has been growing more of the middle class, especially when it comes to wages," said McCarthy.
There have been more jobs, and the unemployment level is at the lowest level on average than with any other president, said McCarthy, "so we are talking together trying to find that plan that we can bring forth."
However, according to the Constitution, all tax reform starts in the House, said McCarthy, so "we have to win the House back."
