The Russian settlements and Russian Oligarchs had a strong foothold by 2014. These Russian immigrants were the ones causing all the trouble. They never were Ukranians despite their claims.
The Ukranian Government had been favorable to Russia until they realized that this was a mistake...just like it had been in the past.

When independent farm crops are bought way below market value and then transportation is exorbitantly priced beyond market price....all happening at the point of a gun. Yeah...no wonder the Ukranians have been growing weary of Russia....not to mention all the political instability the Russian immigrants immediately cause...

Ukranians have wanted nothing to do with Russia more and more as early as 2004.

It wasn't until Zelensky won in a landslide that the people actually got what they wanted. Unfortunately it caused Russia to fight...because they began losing what they were salivating for.

When the amount approaching the multi-billions, it's WAY too much. That money could have been used to rebuild the Maui homes or help homeless vets or repair thousands of decaying American bridges. Etc.
