The difference between the al-Qaeda rebels and the Kurds are fundamental. This is why the FSA was excluded when the SDF was founded.

Trump OKs arms for Syrian Kurds, despite Turkish objections

Dana W. White, the Pentagon’s chief spokeswoman, said in a written statement that President Donald Trump authorized the arms Monday. His approval gives the Pentagon the go-ahead to “equip Kurdish elements of the Syrian Democratic Forces as necessary to ensure a clear victory over ISIS” in Raqqa, said White, who was traveling with Defense Secretary Jim Mattis in Europe.

The U.S. sees the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, or SDF, as its most effective battlefield partner against IS in northern and eastern Syria. White said they’re “the only force on the ground that can successfully seize Raqqa in the near future.”

While White did not mention the kinds of arms to be provided to the Kurds, other officials had indicated in recent days that 120mm mortars, machines guns, ammunition and light armored vehicles were possibilities. They said the U.S. would not provide artillery or surface-to-air missiles.

SOUTHWEST ASIA — On June 8, Coalition military forces conducted 19 strikes consisting of 48 engagements against ISIS terrorists in Syria and Iraq.

In Syria, Coalition military forces conducted 11 strikes consisting of 19 engagements against ISIS targets.
*Near At Tanf, two strikes destroyed two tactical vehicles and a UAS.
*Near Raqqah, nine strikes engaged eight ISIS tactical units and destroyed six fighting positions, three vehicles and a mortar system.

In Iraq, Coalition military forces conducted eight strikes consisting of 29 engagements against ISIS targets.
*Near Al Qaim, one strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed a vehicle.
*Near Bayji, one strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed three VBIEDs, two tactical vehicles, two vehicles and two ISIS staging areas.
*Near Kirkuk, one strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed a tactical vehicle, a heavy machine gun and an ISIS staging area.
*Near Mosul, four strikes engaged four ISIS tactical units; destroyed 11 fighting positions, two weapons caches, a mortar team, a medium machine gun, and a vehicle; damaged seven fighting positions; and suppressed a mortar team.
*Near Rawah, one strike destroyed an IED storage facility.
