It may be that big pharma thinks that they have the 'substantially equivalent' substitute figured out and this would give them a lead into the push for their product verses the natural. That 'substantially equivalent' is how the GMO and the chemical toxins became so prevalent in the current food chain. Hell next thing you know they will be trying to claim they have cloned water and have the right to tax you for using any of it anywhere (akin to wanting to tax the air you breath).
