New Orleans is flooding again and the storm hasn’t even hit yet.

Statues weren't removed until 2017 Whizzo, and that scene of thee inches of water is fairly typical. Hell I saw three feet multiple times just from a rainstorm. Plus, pulling a statue or White League monument doesn't take a fraction of what flood control does, so don't sit here and try to sell bullshit.

Besides which, the ACofE puts the levees up.

I'm a Katrinite. I know this shit.
I heard it on the radio this morning, though, Pogo--it looks as if New Orleans may be in for record flooding--I don't know any particulars.

The hubris of mankind. Build a city below sea level, surrounded by water and wetlands and then act amazed when it floods.

Relax.

It's just overflowing liberal tears as they ponder the performances at the recent "debates". OK, so it took a little time for the reality to sink in and now it threatens to sink...........

It has been 14 years, its time for some more cleansing.
At least people have PLENTY of warning this time. Are people evacuating?

I would assume no. They had plenty of warning last time too. Lol.

We sat in a parking lot of cars moving at three miles an hour on contraflowed interstates. Our trip that would normally take three hours took more than twice that long. *DO NOT* tell me we didn't evacuate. We weren't even allowed back in until October.

How the fuck do you think I got here to North Carolina :eusa_doh:

I know water is an issue in those parts. But in school when I was a lot younger I was taught that the mighty Mississippi River actually wants to change course around New Orleans region and the powers that be do not let it. A lot of people in a small area with a certain amount of supplies and limited escape routes is dangerous. Its a Walking Dead petri dish. We saw it before.

The Mississippi River changes course everywhere, particularly the southern half where it gets wide. Follow it north on a road map some time, you'll see parts of Mississippi inside Louisiana and vice versa. Rivers do that.

In 1927 that southern half flooded big time, put 27,000 square miles under water and drastically affected ten states. My mother talked about it and she was just a toddler at the time.

That's what this was about --

That may be true. But that is a heavily intensive population base in the New Orleans area. There were/are proposals to let the river take over half the city to relieve some of the pressures. Others are to just make it a pure industrial port and empty the city of most of its population. I do not know about Miami. But the people in the Euro areas you mentioned are more together to help each other.

Post-Katrina, all new properties need to be built a certain number of feet above the ground. That will be tested now, I'll bet.

The federal government granted New Orleans millions to repair the levees and they spent it on casinos. The casinos make more than 150 million every month but the levees are still in disrepair and they blame the republican administration.

Currently this isn't a levee thing, (it may become that later). It's more due to the fact that New Orleans is below sea and river level, so they have to pump out every drop of rain that falls inside the city.

Evidently either the pumps or the sewer lines (or both) can't keep up.

The Mississippi is cresting at the highest level since the 1927 floods. And New Orleans is too third world to keep pumps operating.
The dutch did it with windmills.

I had several friends who got out before it ihit. Yeah, they were in long lines but they didn't hang around until it turned into a huge swimming pool.

I wonder if the Police will illegally confiscate guns door to door from LAW ABIDING CITIZENS like they did during Katrina.

Yabbut the sound of them causes cancer.

The son of a very wonderful German told me that.

Of course you do. When flood waters threaten old people, babies, the infirm, the imprisoned, the impoverished, the huddled masses yearning to be free, the first thing a gun fetishist thinks is "O MY GOD SAVE THE GUNS".

When people need to protect their lives and property from roving gangs of LOOTERS, take their only means of protection at the exact time they need it.

Start with the poor that can't afford to lose anything. Yeah, sounds FAIR.

You're a fucking sociopath. In a time of disaster people come together. That is -- normal people.

But a fucking sociopath wouldn't figure that out. Your mentality is the problem.

They don’t do proper maintenance until the week before a hurricane thats common trust me I’m born and raised in New Orleans. When Katrina hit a lived in Metairie in a neighborhood that Deavor flooded and they didn’t turn the pumps on and my neighbor flooded for the first time. The pump station was a block away but they made the two men working there evacuate.

So I guess you wont be falling for the "I betcha I's no where's you gotch yo's shoes" Gambit?

That is what happens when you build a city below sea level...

The old time parts of town dont flood since they were smart enough to build on the only highground in the area.

And just like in Houston, when you pump out all the groundwater the city sinks compounding the problem.

We had some of the nasty stuff earlier today, and are supposed to get more at least through Sunday. It is SO humid...unreal.

It rained today, and the sun wasn't even out, but it felt like 110% humidity. :ack-1:

It was at least still around 88, too.

It's been hot as hell here in Katy Tx as well.
Thats why I get up early,it's the best time of the day.....it's only 80,by 2:00 it's 98.

I was there several years ago for a vacation. It is really rough around the edges, but it has a real character to it that a lot of American cities have lost. Lots of murders--one a day while I was there--and a New Orlean told me the gangs had really upped their game since Katrina. Another flood is going to wipe them out, I'm afraid.

God I hope not!!
After Katrina our crime rate went through the roof!!!!
They came and never left.

Nature wants that place to be flooded so eventually its going to flood. Their ain't no fooling mother nature even by the gubberment and its idiotic Corp of Engineers. Common sense says move your dumb asses elsewhere. If you dont have sense enough not to fight nature then nature will eventually remove you from the gene pool and that's as it should be.

New Orleans is an example of Government Building a City on a Swamp and then blaming the weather and The One Eyed, Global Warming Spaghetti Monster for flooding it.

New Orleans is over three hundred years old, Dumbass. It was there way before "Government" was.

They built on the only highground back then.
Building in low lying areas came later.....to their detriment.
