Many Liberals think and make the argument that we are an 'incarceration nation', that we 'put too many people in jail'.

...that's what happens to people who BREAK THE FRIGGIN' LAW!

"Much of the conversation revolves around people arrested for drug related crimes. These are viewed in some quarters as largely “victimless crimes” which signify some sort of mental disorder on the part of the suspects rather than criminal activity, leading for a push to put people in treatment rather than jail. There may be some people who could be straightened out in that fashion, but clearly not all of them." FOR EXAMPLE:

'Tyrone Howard, a New York City resident, was arrested last October for selling crack to an undercover cop. He had been arrested 28 times since age 13, previously convicted four times for felony drug charges and had been arrested (though not convicted) in a shooting.'

The 'bleeding heart' Liberal judge, who did not bother to do his homework and knew nothing about Tyrone having been arrested 28 (TWENTY EIGHT) times (what happened to the '3-strike' Rule?), was convinced Tyrone was a 'VICTIM' of the 'DRUG CULTURE' and should be sent to get 'treatment' rather than be sent to jail (AGAIN).

Last Tuesday 'poor' Tyrone shot officer Randolph Holder in the head, killing him.

"Earlier, a visibly angry Commissioner William Bratton described Howard, 30, as a dangerous career criminal who never should have been on the streets, calling him a “poster boy for not being diverted” to a treatment-oriented drug court instead of to prison." Remember, Tyrone had been arrested 28 times .. I'm thinking this Judge's '29 Strikes' policy is a little TOO lenient!

In all seriousness, the Justice System broke down in this case because a Judge heinously FAILED to do his job! The argument, however, that we should release criminals because 'there are too many people in jail in this country' is also absurd. The Judge in this case believed there was a 'victimless' crime for which Howard should not be punished; yet, officer Holder and his family became the victims when Howard was released for 'treatment' instead of being in jail where he should have been.

There are 'too many' people in jail because there are 'too many' people like Howard out there COMMITTING CRIMES!

(If the problem is that there are too many people in prison IN THIS COUNTRY...Obama is opening up a whole lot of room in Gitmo.... :p)
