On the left: Women wearing burqas walk by the Gulf of Aqaba in Jordan in 2006. Right: Women in bikinis visit a beach in Rio de Janeiro in 2013.

She compares, bikini's, nudity, plastic surgery and Brazil's carnival dancing contests ( entered by ones own will) to the oppression of the Middle East and the Burka and lack of women's rights.

She implies 'sexism' is the reason for many of the above behaviors. Additionally, violence against women is mentioned and the high rate of murder In Brazil. Yet she ignores the murder rate for men is MUCH HIGHER.

( women represent 8 percent of murder victims in Brazil)

Brazil 7th-most violent country, as 1.1 million murdered in 30 years?report | Inquirer News

BUT she points out Brazil has a female president, and women are well represented in the work force. She then takes a hard turn and speaks about slavery not ending till the 1800's and then speaks of Female genital mutilation which is happening in the Middle East and Africa.

She then concludes with this gem:

“Activists often target the Middle East for its policies towards women. But as living in Brazil has taught me, for women, even having all the freedom in the world can be its own cage.”

Color me confused. Seems as if she is trying to muddy many issues facing both countries and blame it on sexism?
