This shutdown could have been avoided all together if Obama, Reid and the Democrats had been willing to make even the most minor of compromises. No I'm not talking about defunding Obamacare they could though have taken out the medical devices tax or stripped out the exemption for Congress and their staff both of which are unpopular but they would not they could have put in a waiver for six months or a year for those not ready to sign up for the exchanges let those who want to sign up do so but don't punish those who are unsure but instead Obama and Reid choose to take the it's my or no way approach anyone of these minor concessions would likely have prevented the shutdown.

The president is correct.

A majority in the House wants to pass a clean CR funding the government.

Once the government is properly funded and able to pay its debts, the House is at liberty to address the ACA with regard to amending or repealing the Act.

That republicans have failed in the past to repeal the ACA is not justification to shutdown the government or to compel the government to default on its debt.

Republicans need to respect the will of the people, do what’s best for the country, and conduct themselves in a responsible manner.

And no, shutting down the government or repealing the ACA absent a replacement measure to ensure Americans have access to healthcare is not what's 'best' for the country.

I respect what you say...but in line with what you say..

Every poll shows that the majority of Americans do not prefer the ACA overall. Sure, they like the good stuff....kids on the plan til they are 26; no pre existing conditions....but as it pertains to the overall plan, the majority of Americans are not happy.

So why isnt the President and the majority leader interested in the will of the people? Why didn't they listen to the people and, at the very least, delay the law...or the individual mandate for a year so people can first learn more about it?

See? The "will of the people" argument is a valid one.....but it must be used in a fair and balanced way.

See? That is how congress should be viewing the intentions of the other side.
