Texas Gov. Rick Perry is sending 1,000 Texas National Guard troops to the Rio Grande Valley to address the flow of Central American child migrants entering the state. It will cost $12 million per month to maintain this effort, although the guard won’t be able to detain migrants and drug traffickers. They will instead be responsible for maintaining an increased enforcement presence at the border, and will also have water and medical training available for migrants in distress.
