Obama: U.S. intelligence underestimated militants in Syria - CBS

(Reuters) - U.S. intelligence agencies underestimated Islamic State activity inside Syria, which has become "ground zero" for jihadists worldwide, President Barack Obama said in a CBS television interview broadcast on Sunday.

Conversely, the United States overestimated the ability of the Iraqi army to fight the militant groups, Obama said in a "60 Minutes" interview taped on Friday, days after the U.S. president made his case at the United Nations for action.

Citing earlier comments by James Clapper, director of national intelligence, Obama acknowledged that U.S. intelligence underestimated what had been taking place in Syria.

Islamic militants went underground when U.S. Marines quashed al Qaeda in Iraq with help from Iraq's tribes, he said.

"But over the past couple of years, during the chaos of the Syrian civil war, where essentially you have huge swaths of the country that are completely ungoverned, they were able to reconstitute themselves and take advantage of that chaos," Obama said

Gee I dont see Bush blaming anyone in that quote. Is there some part you've left out?

Obama has never taken responsibility for anything. Ever. Yet he consistently takes credit for things others have done. And yet you can't say a word against him.

He admitted that mistakes were made. It's his administration, so everything falls on him. Everybody knows that's how it works. But you have to bitch about something, right? Damned if does, damned if he doesn't.
Bullshit. He's never taken responsibility for anything ever. It's always someone else's fault.

Even the NY Times is calling him a liar now its pathetic.

So....no link then. Got it

This was is not and never will be about intelligence failures it is about a President who wanted to claim he had defeated Al-Qaeda and the war against radical Islam was over and who refused to hear, see, or accept anything that ran counter to his claim.

You're an idiot. If Iraq with an army of half a million can't defend itself against 20,000 in ISIS, why does that become our job?
My post did not have anything to do with the Iraqi army either learn how to read or get someone to read the post for you moron.

The President NEVER claimed the war against Al Qaeda was over.

I insist that you post a quote from the President proving me wrong.

Let me see if I can help-. Not the NYT, but then U.S. Sen. Dick Durban, D-Ill., the Senate majority whip called him a liar. LMAO!!!!!!!

======================================================

U.S. Sen. Dick Durban, D-Ill., the Senate majority whip who is as loyal a liberal as has ever walked the halls of Congress, finds himself calling the country’s most progressive president a liar about the massive surveillance program of American citizens by the National Security Agency known as the PRISM program.

obamafrown-150x150.jpg

“When it comes to telephone calls, every member of Congress has been briefed on this program,” Obama said. Durbin countered: Average members of Congress “don’t receive this kind of briefing.”

The New York Times, the “newspaper of record” whose record over the past five years is riddled with pure partisan cheerleading for the administration, finds itself denouncing a president it helped elect.

“The administration has now lost all credibility,” the Times editorialized Thursday afternoon. Though in a cowardly move, it later watered down that assessment, “The administration has now lost all credibility on this issue.” (Emphasis added.)

Go through life ignorant if you wish, put that liberal Kool-Aid IV of denial on full drip and fall into a stupor.

You probably also missed Ron Fournier mocking Obama with his "I, me, my. It's their fault. I, me, my. It's their fault. I, me, my. It's their fault." tweet summary of the Obama 60 minutes appearance. And this quote, "But by pointing to the agencies without mentioning any misjudgments of his own, Mr. Obama left intelligence officials bristling about being made into scapegoats and critics complaining that he was trying to avoid responsibility."

I think there's a difference between not finding enough WMDs to make you folks happy and not knowing that ISIS was a threat.

Yes, there is a difference ... when Bush and the GOP blamed intelligence for their failures, rightards ate it up and regurgitated it 24/7 as a feasible excuse. The difference this time around is that rightards are rejecting that excuse. The reason for this difference? The political party of the president.

No matter how fucked up Obama is Democrats will still say that WMDs trumps everything.

They figure that lame excuse will fly forever.
Yeah, that "lame" excuse just resulted in a war which cost about 40,000 American casualties and trillions of dollars. You know, nothing worth anything to Conservatives.

Oh, and ironically, that "lame" excuse led to the creation of ISIS.

When it comes to incompetence, Obama comes nowhere near Bush. Far more Americans have died from terrorism while Bush was president than under Obama.

Problem with that, Bush had no control over who was allowed into Iraq during inspections, and Bush couldn't force Turkey to allow us to enter Iraq from the North cutting off any convoys transporting WMDs out of the country before the invasion. We had no cooperation from Turkey, Russia, or the UN. So the WMDs you claim weren't there ended up in Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon.

In this case Obama totally ignored the threat, made it worse by causing the vacuum they took advantage of when he pulled us completely out against the Iraqi's wishes, and refused to influence the political climate in Iraq which is the cause of all of the unrest in the first place.

Boooooooosh. Getting old.

Obama is just not into protecting Americans. Something is more important to him than our national security. He hasn't even attended half the PDBs since he's been in office. He really couldn't care less. Golf, basketball and fund raising are his priority.

The hard work is too much. As he said himself, he's lazy.

Report Update Presidential Daily Briefings A Time-Based Analysis Government Accountability Institute
Executive Summary
In September 2014, the Government Accountability Institute updated an analysis
of how much time President Barack Obama has spent attending his Presidential Daily
Briefs (PDBs), as recorded on the White House official calendar and Politico’s
comprehensive calendar. The updated study covered the president’s first 2,079 days in office, running from January 20, 2009 through September 29, 2014. Of those,
President Obama attended a total of 875 Presidential Daily Briefs for an overall 42.09% attendance rate.

Additionally, GAI compared the attendance rate during the first term to the
attendance rate in the second term, thus far:
First Term: President Obama was inaugurated on January 20, 2009 and

was re-elected in November 2012. Between January 20, 2009 and January
19, 2013, President Obama attended 620 PDBs over a possible 1,461 days
for a 42.43% attendance rate.
Second Term: President Obama was inaugurated for his second term on

January 20, 2013. Between January 20, 2013 and September 29, 2014,
President Obama attended 255 PDBs over a possible 618 days for a
41.26% attendance rate.

So Obama is blaming his failed foreign policy on US intelligence failures. Always looking for someone else to blame. Another teaching moment for him as he teaches the younger generation there is no such thing as personal accountability

with one significant difference. with WMDs it was every intelligence service in the world. with ISIS its only the US intel services. The rest of the world recognized ISIS as a threat.

But the facts are that US intel also recognized the threat but the obama admin ignored it or refused to believe it because of its political implications

The only reason they matter is because it was Bush.
Obama has caused the deaths of at least that many in the last few months because he didn't want to do his job.
