Obama: People who earn more are merely "Society's lottery winners"

Great, that will include his taunt:

I'm always struck by people who think, "well, it must be because I was just so smart." There are a lot of smart people out there. "It must be because I worked harder than everybody else." Let me tell you somethin'. There are a whole lot of hard working people out there.

Obama mocks business owners. Obama equates starting, growing and running a business with working for a business.

Thanks.

Any business owner that says 'they' did it should be mocked. 'They' may have put a platform in place, but 'they' didn't make the success, their employees did.
And precisely what does "putting the platform in place" mean to you?

Please expand on that, for the average business owner. You say you've owned businesses in the past, you should know all about this.

He knows nothing. He's a 17yr old guy in mom's basement pretending to be something on the internet. That is obvious from his posts.
Anyone who has ever met a successful businessman knows he has worked his ass off to get there. There might be 100 people in his company. He works harder than any of them. Look at Jeff Bezos, for example.

I definitely have my doubts. One of his profound pearls of wisdom, when discussing how to successfully start and grow a business, was "never hire family". I couldn't believe my eyes. What I'm talking about goes a teeny, tiny bit deeper than that.

He lost me when he claimed that importers would not be hurt by laws mandating a roll back of prices.

And yet its probably the most used. That's the impressive part of Microsoft. They never had the best product for any application but they were successful in selling it anyway.

Bill Gates is a marketing genius, not a technical genius.
Meh... Gates owned a monopoly... it's easy to be a marketing genius when you own a monopoly.
It wasn't a monopoly, and Gates put Microsoft in the position it was in.
Incorrect. It was a monopoly, and IBM put Microsoft in the position it was in.

Wrong. It wasn't a monopoly. There was Apple and a number of other computer vendors like Amiga.
Apple and Amiga sold operating systems on IBM PCs? Who knew?

Sometimes businesses dont make it. Its a risk, and if you never owned or started a small business you dont know the pressures involved. If they make a profit
they deserve it

Businesses don't survive because the business owner didn't have:

1) Five years of total capital
2) Know who to hire which you can farm out.
3) Never, ever, ever hire family

Here's a great link for you.

11 all-too-common reasons small businesses fail

Reasons businesses fail

They run out of money
Overconfidence
Poor pricing strategy
Dueling partners
Burnout
A stale marketing message
Failure to join the digital revolution
Cybertheft
Underestimating the competition
Overreliance on one customer
Disgruntled employees

Following my three must-haves, you won't fail.

FYI: I've started, or bought and expanded, or Angel Invested 22 businesses since 1980. All are still in business.

The rich shouldn't pay the same percentage of their total income in taxes as the middle class?

The "Rich" always pay more money because they make more money. If everybody is taxed at a 10% rate then the guy making $10K a year only pays $1K in taxes while the guy making one million a year pays $100K, That is a difference of $99K in case you have trouble with math.

However, even that is not good enough for the greedy socialists. They have come up with this greedy idea of a progressive rate where higher income earners have to not only pay more money but a higher rate. There is no end to greed, is there?

The problem we have in this country is not that we don't tax enough. The problem is that we spend too much money on the cost of government and that is a significant burden on our economy. Right now the combined cost of government in this country is over 40% of the GNP and that is despicable. We spend more money just on government in this country than the GNP of all but one other country in the world according to the CIA Fact Book.

Amazing how many millions of hard working people have to be ignored when tossing out the "life's lottery" bullshit.

Yeah, some lucked into it. The rest busted their ass, and they're being insulted by this ignorant crap.

The fact remains that wealth is made on the backs of others. There are no wealthy people today that have 'busted their ass.'
My goodness, I don't know even know how to respond to that. What you want is clear, good luck.

You can start by naming one. Don't write 'Koch' ;-)

Very few family business make it past five years, and of the ones that do, few of those make it past a third generation.

I don't know of one Angel Investor that will invest in a family run businesses.

Unless you have significant collateral, banks won't invest in family run businesses.

You understand that is not identical to what he wrote, right?
Besides, Brown-Forman pretty much proves you wrong.
