Obama Put's Up Rescue Beacons To Help Illegals Make It Through The Desert

Actually, this was started while Bush was prez and a Lutheran church in Tucson did it too - BEFORE Obama was president.

But go ahead and pretend that Obama had something to do with it.

While we're at it, another Bush era rescue that McCain did was putting lookouts on tall towers. The Border Patrol agents were to sit up there scanning the desert for people. It didn't work because the desert flora is so thick you could hide a herd of elephants out there and the agents were suffering from sitting up there, unprotected from the sun.

You would have a point if Bush ran the government by himself.....


BTW, since the link states clearly that this is being announced by the Obama administration, not the Bush administration, I don't how this can be swept u Der the rug anymore.....

not only is obama rolling out the red-carpet for illegals, is signing them up for obamacare, going around congress and giving them amnesty, he's now putting up safety beacons along the border to, according the the administration, to keep them from dying in the desert during their trip into the united states.

There are also plans on using helicopters to lift illegals out of danger and bring them into the u.s.

These are just few of the many perils mexican migrants crossing the southern arizona desert encounter every day. And far more of them will attempt to cross this summer, the u.s. Border patrol predicts.

The agency unveiled its plans wednesday for dealing with the problem of immigrants dying in the desert, including 10 new beacons that allow migrants to call for help at the push of a red button. The agency is also adding new hoisting systems on helicopters to rescue immigrants.

Officials from the tucson sector on wednesday gave reporters, government officials and immigration activists a demonstration of the latest tools they have to assist those who cross from mexico into arizona and get injured or dehydrated and cannot continue walking. The demonstration was held 20 miles north of the sasabe port of entry to mexico, southwest of tucson, and included a nearly one-mile hike through rough terrain where migrants often cross.

The border patrol says it sees a steep increase in calls for help coming from its 22 beacons as the summer approaches.

"it's either they live or die. They make the call right away," agent ricardo cardiel said.

The beacons are 30-feet-tall and solar powered. They have sun reflectors and blue lights on top that are visible for 10 miles. The beacons have signs in three languages that direct users to push a red button that sends out a signal for help. Response times vary from 10 minutes to an hour depending on where the nearest agents are located.

Border patrol officials specially trained in rescue and medical operations then respond.

The agency plans a media event for wednesday morning in the desert south of tucson to highlight the dangers immigrants face when crossing rugged, remote terrain in sometimes triple-digit heat while also facing potential abuse or worse at the hands of smugglers.

And helicopter or air rescue is always the preferred mode of transport for someone who's life is in danger. Here's an example from 2006;
