On the radio today they discussed obama's joke of a budget....and one of the items not funded....the D.C. scholarship program which allows poor children in D.C. to go to quality schools by providing them with scholarships..........again...the democrats do not want successful followers...they need uneducated, poor, angry people to vote them power.......what a jerk.....

Too many level-headed blacks calling for the voucher system today after the epic fail of public schools. Uppity negroes don't you know. Democrats can't cotton any of that nonsense.

You misheard. This is why it is important to provide links to shit you thought you heard on the radio.

The DC scholarship is not being defunded. It is receiving the same funding for the same number of scholarships. It is not getting an increase in funding.

The DC scholarship program is a voucher program. Democrats, for idiotic reasons, oppose voucher programs, even though the demand for these vouchers in the Washington, DC school district is through the roof.

Outside the gated community of the seat of government, Washington DC is a "chocolate city".

Obama tried to kill this voucher program, but Republicans forced it to be restored a few years ago. Obama is trying to let it die by attrition by only funding existing scholarships and not allowing any more in the future, while Republicans want to increase funding and increase scholarships to meet the high demand for more of these vouchers.

AFC questions Obama Administration effort to cut D.C. Opportunity Scholarship funding - American Federation for Children

The American Federation for Children, the nation’s voice for educational choice, criticized President Obama’s decision to once again significantly cut funding for the highly successful D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program (OSP) in his Fiscal Year 2016 budget. The President’s budget, released today, includes $3.2 million for the D.C. OSP, which solely covers the program evaluation and administrative costs.

Obama Budget Won t Give New Funds To Voucher Program The Daily Caller

The D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program, created in 2003, was allowed to expire by Obama in 2009 and was then reborn in 2011 after the bipartisan passage of the SOAR Act. The program provides scholarships to cover tuition and fees at participating D.C. private schools.
Due to limited funding, demand for the scholarships far outstrips supply. Last year, over 1,700 students applied to received the scholarships, but limited funding means that only 285 were given out through a lottery system. Advocates of the program have urged the president to let it expand to meet some of this overwhelming demand, but the president’s budget proposal leaves them hanging, including only enough money to continue the administration of existing scholarships while cutting off the prospect of any new ones.

It is a myth that democrats are for the poor.....they want uneducated, poor, angry people who will give the democrats power....

RW's have no idea why they bitch or wtf they're bitching about, they just bitch.

Billy is a troll, pay no attention.

It's the liberal plan, keep blacks uneducated and on welfare. All for a vote, this is a chance for blacks to get an education. Obama is against educating his fellow brothers, and this is proof.

The new common core standards--that were snuck in the economic stimulus bill of 2009 are horrible. They're actually LOWER than most school standards today. Governors of states were offered money from the stimulus bill to adopt these lower standards, when they're state legislatures were out on their yearly break. Only a few states opted out of these standards, (didn't take the Federal Government money) and now parents all over the country are having a fit about "Common Core."

If you've got 30 minutes take that time to watch 1 through 5 of these videos. Very eye opening.

Agree with you on that one. Minorities typically vote Democrat, and Democrat politicians are always for public schools which are failing all over the country. One thing that I agree with is what John McCain stated. "The greatest travesty of minority discrimination," is forcing kids (simply because they're parents live in low income neighborhoods) into schools that are failing. Democrats make certain that they have no options on improving the opportunities of their kids to attend better schools. Instead Democrats back the teachers union, whom are mainly employed in public schools.

A good documentary on this topic to watch is called "Waiting for Superman."

So you support a nationwide taxpayer funded federal program to allow poor children to go to costly schools?

i think vouchers a horrible idea.

The thing is, I grew up in a Catholic School, but the reason why Catholic schools worked was that parents were committed.

Money spent on vouchers is money that isn't being spent improving the schools the majority of these kids are going to end up going to, anyway.

No....I think they should take the education dollars we already give them and be given a voucher, to be redeemed at any public or private school of their choice...if what the tax payers pay is not enough to cover the cost they make up the difference.....since most Catholic schools are less expensive, and provide a better eduation.....the state would keep what they didn't use.....

Of course the democrats want uneducated children....they make excellent adult, democrat voters.....

Welllll.....money isn't being spent to improve the horrible public schools now.....even though they are spending more and more.....vs....Catholic schools which are providing a better education at less cost......too much tax money is going to administrative costs, waste, and abuse.....give vouchers....redeemable at any private or public school, and you will see things improve....that is how it works in the real world......education needs a dose of that.....

What does it cost at a catholic school per pupil?

Obama wants to deny our kids an education, but the Republicans are the ones constantly yammering about cutting funding for education ..
