Obama to Normalize Relations with Cuba

It's a good thing Russia has it's spy base on Cuba. All this openness should make infiltration much easier.

That's alright, because their spy bases in Cuba is trumped by our military prison in Cuba, where we hold captives that we made in an undeclared war without any constitutional rights, including Habitus Corpus and the right to a speedy trial.
odumdumb just sent four more fighters back to the battlefield in Afghanistan.

Watching an ancient codger like Fidel and Raul Castro make a fool out of our national dunce has some entertainment value.

What were their names? Did we comp them a ticket on Afghanistan Airlines?

Your anti-American propaganda is now fully documented, even hoping Americans are hanged...

Hard to say. He may come from a long line of southerners who enjoyed an occasional lynching.

Cuba is one of the most oppressive countries in the world. obumble got no concessions as to human rights. There is nothing in Cuba that will change. The Castros are still in full power as dictators. Cuba is the same today as it was the day Fidel defeated Bautista.

Oppression, like free health care?

The Southern slaves has free health care in 1861 as well.

Someone mentioned JFK, and it's interesting to note that many people believe JFKs assassination was ultimately from Moscow. Indeed, Kennedy was poised to eventually have Cuba and be rid of Castro. This was prevailing US Foreign Policy under the Monroe Doctrine. So it's not rocket science.

But instead, the Democrats were lost without his leadership on Cuba and we allowed Castro to remain and didn't aggressively pursue JFKs strategy. Now they have established a Communist stronghold there, and they have no intentions of dissembling it. There is not even going to be a negotiation for them to reform.

Tourism is the projected savior of Cuba. Tourism brings capitalism at it purest. Cuba is looking for relief and the only thing that can turn Cuba is tourism/capitalism. The Castro brothers don't have to look far to see the Caribbean isn't what it was like 30-40 years ago. It's not even close to being backwards, countries are getting wealthier thanks to tourism. People from all over the world come to the Caribbean. Cuba would be the crown jewel of the Caribbean, without question.
Cuba will accept capitalism in a heart beat.
Hopefully, though probably not a good thing for Cubans if Cuba takes the China route - establishing a crony capitalist system of party elites running state owned enterprises.
I think China's route is lot a better than the course set by Castro. In 25 years China has gone from 100% state ownership to 35%.

Kiwi,

Cuba has been under embargo for 54 years. I think that Boss believes that in one more year, they would have capitulated, and become a democracy, because they can not buy a Chevy Volt down there.

I don't know about when they might have done anything. Without the butt-loads of money pouring in from Venezuela like it was, they are looking for new revenue. The regime is unstable with Fidel stepping down and the anti-Castro movement is pressuring. I can certainly see where this might be a time we could sit down and negotiate something with regard to human rights, democracy, and free trade.

But our negotiating chip is gone! We just gave it to them for nothing. Oh, if it pleases you that a bunch of corrupt crony corporatist fat cats are going to get very wealthy off the labor of Cuban slaves, hey... it's a great day! If you were supporting human rights and democracy for the Cuban people... well that's all gone now.
In reality, the only thing Obama has done is normalized relations with Cuba. He issue an executive action which is one step down from an executive order which outlines a course of action and policy goals, instructs the Sec. of State to open negotiations, and makes some minor changes to import export policy. However, the major changes, lifting bans on imports and exports, opening fund flow between the countries, and lifting travel restrictions will require congressional approval. The US holds all the cards when it comes to negotiating with Cuba.

Perhaps, though too much state control still exists over their economy.

How are Cubans going to pay for American goods even if they demand them. The average income is $20.00 a month.
Study Polands entry to the EU then you can answer your asinine question.
The difference being that the government of Poland wanted a free country and Cuba does not.
Are you really that thick, do you know about the growth of wealth among the people of Russia and China?.
The governments of Russia and China wanted wealth to grow. Cuba does not and has not been shy about saying so. Cuba will not permit the Cuban people to acquire wealth or property.

Well, again the far right shows exactly how out of touch they are with reality. Of course it's all based on old fear built up over a long dead Cold War. The far right is living in the 60's.
Back in the 60's most of Latin America/South America had dictatorships, several were communist, now in the today's world, almost all of Latin America/South America has democracy born from capitalism. Most people know this.
First of all, polls show a majority of Americans favor it 2 to 1. Then we have The Wall Street Journal, which is the bastion of capitalism and conservative thought, wanting to go further than Obama wants to take it now. The Chamber of Commerce, a huge supporter of the GOP strongly supports normalization of relations with Cuba. The business world sees opportunity in a new market. People realize opening up Cuba will mean thousands and thousands of new jobs for Americans.
I have seen solid arguments for the normalization of relations with Cuba and have yet to see a solid argument for continuing the concept of America being the only country in the world isolating Cuba and punishing it's entire population.

First of all Tipsycatlover, you are the lowest form of human life for wishing the death of your fellow Americans.
Secondly, as I have pointed out, people who much, much greater knowledge than you, specifically about the workings of capitalism, are convinced that Cuba is going to be a goldmine for American business and a great source for increasing American jobs. These same experts foresee Cuba repeating what has happened in nation after nation, where creating wealth for the people created freedom for the nation.

Democrats are NOT my fellow Americans.

No matter how many experts are convinced that Cuba is going to be a capitalist goldmine the Castro regime is not. Despite the experts best intentions the regime gets a vote. Their vote trumps all the other votes.

We're not punishing the Cuban population by not having normalized relations with Cuba. Very few people are opposed to normalized relations with a democratic Cuba. These people are not free like we are, they will not benefit from our trade dollars. The profits will be absorbed by the Communist regime and used to further Communist interests in the Western hemisphere. It's what they do.

When a person can't accept some else's some else's Constitutional guaranteed right to form their own opinion and express their opinion, they really aren't good Americans.
And when someone like you wishes death upon them, according the Bible you are defying God's wishes.
1 John 2:9 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness.
1 John 2:10 Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble.
1 John 2:11 But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him.
