Obama to Normalize Relations with Cuba

American corporations won't even get rich. If Hilton wants to build a hotel in Havana the chain can build it but not own it. The regime will own it. The Cubans who work there will get their $20.00 a month.

There might be a McDonalds but the franchise will be owned by the regime.

obumble imagines that he can unionize the Cubans and the Castros won't kill the members.
Cuba recently announced that 9,000 government owned and operated restaurants are going into the private sector. Cuba is doing the same thing China did in later 20th century. The're restricting foreign ownership to government partnerships while allowing citizens of Cuba to own more businesses. That won't last long when they see the profits rolling in from free enterprise.

BTW McDonald's is already in Cuba.

You are spewing Communist Propaganda.

None of this is true.

Cuba is one of the most repressed countries in the Western Hemisphere.

Most recently, the military regime of Cuba has played the role of strong-arm for the Communists in Moscow. They supplied 20k troops in Angola, and Communist outposts in Nicaragua, Venezuela and attempted to take over Grenada.

These people are Communists. They are bent on the destruction of America, not what is in our best interests. The whole reason there is an embargo and briefly a blockade, was because they were about to launch a nuclear attack on us and we caught them before they could get it set up.

This just absolutely astonishes me to no end.. We have a nation full of Obama Zombies with their pie-face look, proclaiming this is a Wonderful Thing! Why hasn't someone thought of this before? And what we are about to discover is what happens to a nation when they allow absolute imbeciles to handle foreign policy and national security.

The above post reminds me of what the 50's-60's must of been like.
You do realize that's not just the "Obama Zombies" who support normalizing relations with Cuba. Polls have show across the board support. Top pro-business groups support this including a huge GOP financial supporter, The Chamber of Commerce along with major farm groups. I'm pretty sure they are a hell of a lot better informed than our naysayers and certainly smarter. All I know is there's a ton of Americans who'd just love to vacation there, including my wife and myself. It'd create new markets for American companies and jobs for thousands of Americans.

No, it's like I said.. an odd and unusual combination of corporatists (not capitalists) and left-wing socialist radicals. That's all who support this.

And I am SURE most liberal fucktards in America would have no problem whatsoever, taking your money down there and giving it to Castro while his slaves tend to your needs. You people don't really care about human rights as long as it's not here and in our face, where you can use it for political gain.

Kiwi,

Cuba has been under embargo for 54 years. I think that Boss believes that in one more year, they would have capitulated, and become a democracy, because they can not buy a Chevy Volt down there.

I don't know about when they might have done anything. Without the butt-loads of money pouring in from Venezuela like it was, they are looking for new revenue. The regime is unstable with Fidel stepping down and the anti-Castro movement is pressuring. I can certainly see where this might be a time we could sit down and negotiate something with regard to human rights, democracy, and free trade.

But our negotiating chip is gone! We just gave it to them for nothing. Oh, if it pleases you that a bunch of corrupt crony corporatist fat cats are going to get very wealthy off the labor of Cuban slaves, hey... it's a great day! If you were supporting human rights and democracy for the Cuban people... well that's all gone now.

Claptrap.

Cuba is one of the most oppressive countries in the world. obumble got no concessions as to human rights. There is nothing in Cuba that will change. The Castros are still in full power as dictators. Cuba is the same today as it was the day Fidel defeated Bautista.

Oppression, like free health care?

The Cuban Missile Crisis...is over? Hmmm... funny how Obama writes his own rules. So what happened to the nuclear warheads pointed at America? And I seem to remember hearing that the Soviets are buzzing the U.S.A.'s southern borders with bombers recently(pause again for thought).

Yes The Cuban Missile Crisis...is over, in fact it has been over for a while now.
The Soviet Union removed its nuclear missiles from Cuba in November, 1962, as part of an agreement that ended the missile crisis.

The Soviets Bombers are buzzing the Southern United States? Really how did that miss the news since the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) ceased to exist on December 26, 1991?
I see you need to catch up on current affairs.

Your proof? Perhaps you can list all Russian military and navy updates. Luckily I live in the U.S. and not the Ukraine.

We see all the sick Cubans fighting to get back to Cuba for all that free health care.

Yes, the Cuba Missile Crisis is over, and had he lived, President Kennedy would have recognized Cuba.

In the final months of his Administration, J.F.K. even opened a secret peace channel to Castro, led by U.N. diplomat William Attwood. "He would have recognized Cuba," Milt Ebbins, a Hollywood crony of J.F.K.'s, says today. "He told me that if we recognize Cuba, they'll buy our refrigerators and toasters, and they'll end up kicking Castro out."

Nearly six in 10 Americans support re-establishing relations with Cuba, according to a New York Times poll conducted in October. Mr. Obama’s move had the support of the Catholic Church, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Human Rights Watch and major agricultural interests.

Mr. Obama will send an assistant secretary of state to Havana next month to talk about migration, and Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker may lead a commercial mission.

Mr. Obama’s decision will ease travel restrictions for family visits, public performances, and professional, educational and religious activities, among other things, but ordinary tourism will still be banned under the law. Mr. Obama will also allow greater banking ties, making it possible to use credit and debit cards in Cuba, and American travelers will be allowed to import up to $400 worth of goods from Cuba, including up to $100 in tobacco and alcohol products.

“These 50 years have shown that isolation has not worked,” Mr. Obama said. “It’s time for a new approach.”

He added that he shared the commitment to freedom for Cuba. “The question is how we uphold that commitment,” he said. “I do not believe we can keep doing the same thing for over five decades and expect a different result.”

That is exactly right. In fact. JFK had sent a team to talk peace with Castro as a preliminary step to formal talks. JFK was assassinated while they were talking. Someone came in and told Castro. He turned to the delegation, and said, "There goes your 'peace'"

Yes, the missiles were withdrawn in 1962. It was about 8 years after the Korean War. You remember the war, don't you? It was in all the papers.....

It's a good thing Russia has it's spy base on Cuba. All this openness should make infiltration much easier.

That's alright, because their spy bases in Cuba is trumped by our military prison in Cuba, where we hold captives that we made in an undeclared war without any constitutional rights, including Habitus Corpus and the right to a speedy trial.
