Obama to Normalize Relations with Cuba

This normalization of the relations with Cuba is nothing, but another crazy scheme of Obama's administration. I don't think there will be some kind of profit. This is an obvious blow to the state of Florida.
Why would this be a blow to Florida?
Except to some old Alpha 66 members who have their panties all in a wad.

China wanted free markets Cuba does not.
Privatization and state endorsement of free markets in China took 10 years after diplomatic relations were restored. In Cuba it will come must faster. As sanctions are lifted, as they surely will, America companies will flock to Cuba like bees to honey.

If they haven't gone to Haiti, why would they ever go to Cuba, which is similarly backwards?

When you think about it, Castro worked out a pretty good deal for Cuba. he replaced a totally corrupt dictatorship with a communist regime, the major change being that the dictator was no longer stealing the money for himself, but investing it in the infrastructure. Unfortunately for him, the US cut off all sources of money to do that. Castro made lemonade out of lemons by talking the Soviets into propping up his non-economy for about 40 years.

That was his fault or ours?

Really? How is it a blow to Florida? Florida will be the biggest beneficiary of American tourist bound for Cuba being only 90 miles off the coast. Being the closet port to the US, Miami will certainly benefit from the Cuban demand for American goods. This all may takes years to develop, but it will come. The genie is out of the bottle and no one is going to be able to plug it back.

How are Cubans going to pay for American goods even if they demand them. The average income is $20.00 a month.

Oh, I don't think it will take that long at all. Raoul is eager to get the US Dollars flowing since he has lost his cash cow in Venezuela.

Why do you respond as if you think Cuba is a free market capitalist country? It is essentially a communist prison camp. No one there is free. We've had to rescue starving people from rafts made of old tires, trying to escape there. The "people" in Cuba are slaves owned by the Castro regime and inner circle. They don't have democracy, they don't get to participate in free trade. There is nothing in US trade that will benefit them in any way.

So all this economic boon.... the corporatists in the US will get rich, the Castro regime will get rich, and the people of Cuba will get screwed. Castro will most likely continue to fund military interests in Africa and South America or Central America now... he's going to have much money to spend!

American corporations won't even get rich. If Hilton wants to build a hotel in Havana the chain can build it but not own it. The regime will own it. The Cubans who work there will get their $20.00 a month.

There might be a McDonalds but the franchise will be owned by the regime.

obumble imagines that he can unionize the Cubans and the Castros won't kill the members.

Cuban beaches are without a doubt the most beautiful in the Caribbean, over 200 miles of pristine beaches scattered over 3500 miles of coastline, mostly undeveloped. Cuba's beaches are unique for the varied tones of their sand, from dazzling white to glittering gold to a distinctive black. Besides beaches there's old Havana, colonial towns, caves, and castles. Then there's thousands of miles of the unspoiled coral reefs and fishing.
Cuba has the potential of becoming one of the most popular travel destinations in Caribbean.

Cuba recently announced that 9,000 government owned and operated restaurants are going into the private sector. Cuba is doing the same thing China did in later 20th century. The're restricting foreign ownership to government partnerships while allowing citizens of Cuba to own more businesses. That won't last long when they see the profits rolling in from free enterprise.

BTW McDonald's is already in Cuba.

Cuba was every bit as poor in the 1950's as it is now, and back then, my best friend's parents went there every vacation......and never talked about what they were up to while they were there!

Stop listening to the voices in your head.

You are spewing Communist Propaganda.

None of this is true.

Cuba is one of the most repressed countries in the Western Hemisphere.

Most recently, the military regime of Cuba has played the role of strong-arm for the Communists in Moscow. They supplied 20k troops in Angola, and Communist outposts in Nicaragua, Venezuela and attempted to take over Grenada.

These people are Communists. They are bent on the destruction of America, not what is in our best interests. The whole reason there is an embargo and briefly a blockade, was because they were about to launch a nuclear attack on us and we caught them before they could get it set up.

This just absolutely astonishes me to no end.. We have a nation full of Obama Zombies with their pie-face look, proclaiming this is a Wonderful Thing! Why hasn't someone thought of this before? And what we are about to discover is what happens to a nation when they allow absolute imbeciles to handle foreign policy and national security.

Now that they no longer have nuclear missiles, Cuba has a plan to lull us into a false sense of security, and then jam all of our radio signals South of Pittsburgh with Mambo and Rhumba recordings, 24/7.

Tourism is the projected savior of Cuba. Tourism brings capitalism at it purest. Cuba is looking for relief and the only thing that can turn Cuba is tourism/capitalism. The Castro brothers don't have to look far to see the Caribbean isn't what it was like 30-40 years ago. It's not even close to being backwards, countries are getting wealthier thanks to tourism. People from all over the world come to the Caribbean. Cuba would be the crown jewel of the Caribbean, without question.
Cuba will accept capitalism in a heart beat.

Hopefully, though probably not a good thing for Cubans if Cuba takes the China route - establishing a crony capitalist system of party elites running state owned enterprises.

The above post reminds me of what the 50's-60's must of been like.
You do realize that's not just the "Obama Zombies" who support normalizing relations with Cuba. Polls have show across the board support. Top pro-business groups support this including a huge GOP financial supporter, The Chamber of Commerce along with major farm groups. I'm pretty sure they are a hell of a lot better informed than our naysayers and certainly smarter. All I know is there's a ton of Americans who'd just love to vacation there, including my wife and myself. It'd create new markets for American companies and jobs for thousands of Americans.

I agree.
But there are good things that actually have trickled down .China's Middle Class has grown quite a bit, became wealthier and certainly stronger, unlike the Middle Class in the US.
