Obama trip to Africa June 26 could cost $60 to $100 million

He could save money if he rides the wave of conservative tears to Africa.

Another post demonstrating that those who put truth in their handles tend to be some of the biggest liars around.

And another post showing you as a pathetic whiner....

Stating facts is whining now?

Heaven forbid people suggest that the President cut back his travel expenses and sacrifice alittle for the people when he tells the people they need to sacrifice.

Our nation is overspending. It was bad during the Bush administration. It's worse now. And yet you guys seem to have no problem with us spending millions, in fact, trillions we don't have when there are common sense ways to cut spending that doesn't hurt much at all.

If you call that whining, then fine. But i'd rather be "whining" then have my head so far up my rear end that I was blind to reality.

Can you guys at least try to come up with a better excuse than "Both sides do it" as if that somehow justifies things?

the King deserves some rest, all that traveling around the country to fundraisers putting down our country and the people in it is hell..

I did not take the time to read the entire thread, but does anyone know if obama is going to visit his birthplace in Kenya and take a picture beside the sign that Kenya put up acknowledging his kenyan birth?

joking libs,,,,,,,, don't get all fired up

It's a high price indeed, but I've always been a fan of Obama taking as many vacations as possible.

can't wait for their last vacation, jetting off to their new pad...they've become quite the 1%ers off him being President...

maybe the OWS will protest them eh?

If I remember correctly, this trip will cost around 3 times what the sequester kept the govt from spending.

Soooooooo, obozo stay home, no sequester needed.

yeah libs, that is cow shit you just stepped in.

Remind me again, what the downside to the United States would be, if Obama simply cancelled the trip due to excessive cost?

How, exactly, would our country be worse off?

Alternatively, could we save some money if we made the trip one-way? The article mentions long-term accommodations available on Robben Island.

That alone might make the expenditure worth it.

Document: Major resources needed for Obama Africa trip

By Carol D. Leonnig and David Nakamura

When President Obama makes his first extended trip to sub-Saharan Africa this month, the federal agencies charged with keeping him safe won’t be taking any chances.

Hundreds of U.S. Secret Service agents will be dispatched to secure facilities in Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania. A Navy aircraft carrier or amphibious ship, with a fully staffed medical trauma center, will be stationed offshore in case of an emergency.

Military cargo planes will airlift in 56 support vehicles, including 14 limousines and three trucks loaded with sheets of bullet*proof glass to cover the windows of the hotels where the first family will stay. Fighter jets will fly in shifts, giving 24-hour coverage over the president’s airspace, so they can intervene quickly if an errant plane gets too close.

The elaborate security provisions — which will cost the government tens of millions of dollars — are outlined in a confidential internal planning document obtained by The Washington Post. While the preparations appear to be in line with similar travels in the past, the document offers an unusual glimpse into the colossal efforts to protect the U.S. commander in chief on trips abroad.

The first family is making back-to-back stops from June 26 to July 3 in three countries where U.S. officials are providing nearly all the resources, rather than depending heavily on local police forces, military authorities or hospitals for assistance.

The president and first lady had also planned to take a Tanzanian safari as part of the trip, which would have required the president’s special counterassault team to carry sniper rifles with high-caliber rounds that could neutralize cheetahs, lions or other animals if they became a threat, according to the planning document.

But officials said Thursday that the safari had been canceled in favor of a trip to Robben Island off the coast of Cape Town, South Africa, where Nelson Mandela was held as a political prisoner.

Internal administration documents circulated in April show that the Obama family was scheduled to go to both Robben Island and the safari park, according to a person familiar with the plans.

Many details about foreign presidential trips are classified for national security reasons, and there is little public information about overall costs. A report from the Government Accountability Office found that Clinton’s 1998 trip to six African nations cost the U.S. government at least $42.7 million.

Obama’s trip could cost the federal government $60 million to $100 million based on the costs of similar African trips in recent years, according to one person familiar with the journey, who was not authorized to speak for attribution.

But think of all the starving little African children that will feed. Wait.........

nobody travels unless they absolutely have to. But we all know this isn't good enough for dear leader. It would even be better if he just left his whole family at home instead of the cost of taking all of them! There are 3 extra people for security to cover....talk about a waste!

An extended political travel for his administration to Africa is long overdue. African leaders travel to the US for relation building and important events as well.
Yup. And Chinese influence in Africa is growing at a HUGE rate. They know that Africa has large oil reserves, and want to steer those countries toward Chinese long-term deals.

When the Chinese decide they are interested in an area, they waste little time. Have any of you ever been to Panama City, Panama? You would think you were in Shanghai, especially around the hotels and casinos.

The reason the Chinese have influence is they don't have retarded tree-hugging Democrats/Liberals to get in the way of progress.

The moment Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi start talking about Green Energy requirements anything the Chinese have to offer looks pretty damned good.

I thought you were center/left from the political test the other day where you claimed to not be a right winger?

What the hell happened?

:eusa_shhh:
might spoil the royal families trip..

Consumer Sentiment Slips in Early June

U.S. consumer sentiment retreated this month after reaching its highest in nearly six years in May, a survey released on Friday showed, as household optimism about employment and housing faded slightly.

The Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan's preliminary reading on the overall index on consumer sentiment fell to 82.7 in June, below a near six-year high of 84.5 in May. Economists polled by Reuters had expected it to hold at 84.5 this month. June's reading, however, was the second highest in the last eight months, suggesting Americans were far from gloomy about their long-term prospects. While the barometer of current economic conditions fell to 92.1 from 98.0, a gauge of consumer expectations edged up to its highest since November at 76.7 from 75.8.

Confidence eroded most among lower-income households, which were ``more likely to report worsening overall financial prospects'' than higher-income households, survey director Richard Curtin said in a statement.

But he added that ``all consumers were less optimistic about job prospects in early June, expected smaller gains in the value of their homes and judged the probability of stock price increases somewhat below last month's level.''

Having common-sense doesn't mean I'm a rightwinger.:eusa_eh:

That's the trouble with retards.

"Hey, let's attack Obama for doing THIS!"

Never occurs to them to see how anyone on their side of the spectrum would stand up to the same test before splooging themselves in the face.

The way they never learn, the definition of retarded.

I agree, being a right winger is quite possibly the most severe mental illness on the face of the earth.

I am a right winger.

And I come from the planet Vulcan.
