More Scrutiny for Failed Cover Oregon Rollout

21 Mar 2014
The debacle of the “Cover Oregon” website may be the biggest healthcare scandal you’ve never heard about.
Cover Oregon is the name of the state health insurance exchange for The Beaver State. The name is now synonymous with perhaps the nation’s largest IT failure. More than $300 million in federal grant money was at stake. The state had already spent an estimated $200 million on the website that has yet to register a single Oregonian for healthcare. It may be a couple of years before the website will be up and fully functioning.

The events on Thursday have shone a national spotlight on the failed Cover Oregon website rollout. As of Friday morning, virtually every single state official associated with the state’s healthcare exchange effort has resigned, including Kitzhaber’s staunchest healthcare ally, Dr. Bruce Goldberg, who resigned on Thursday as executive director of Cover Oregon, a position he assumed only a few months earlier.

So what happened to the $300,000,000 obozo gave oregon to set up their website.? The companies just took the money and did nothing. That's what happened. All govt programs are like that.

And still to this day, one month after the OP.

Associated Press contributed to this report:

Cover Oregon on Friday became the first casualty of the state-run ObamaCare exchanges, as officials formally gave up the fight to offer residents a state health care portal. Instead, Oregon, which has been hemorrhaging millions of dollars on a barely functioning website that has failed to sign up a single person, is turning to the federal government for an out.

Cover Oregon’s full board approved the recommendations made Thursday by an advisory committee to fold its troubled portal and use the federal HealthCare.gov for private policies.

The state initially paid $134 million to Oracle Corp. to build its online exchange. Cover Oregon also spent more than $3 million on marketing the site, which included radio, television and YouTube ads, spokeswoman Ariane Holm told FoxNews.com last year.

Cover Oregon received a month-long enrollment deadline extension because of multiple technical glitches in its system.

We should ask for a refund.

They wasted all that money. Taxpayer money. People had to earn the money, by working. Then paying taxes. Just so the politicians of Oregon can literally flush it down the toilet.

But they "meant well".......

Obamacare is a temporary law that will ruin a lot of people's lives until it is finally repealed. Why? 2 words. Political Correctness.

here we had a state instead of following how the web site is supposed to be set up they went out got some third rate company to set their web site up ... they tried to cut the cost every where they could ... the site failed ... as for sign up to the health care plan they had 270,000 people sign up ... helping us reach a 8 million number ... each state had to sign up at least 160,000 people ...I would say even thought the web site didn't work they still sign up more the 160,000 people ... I would say here you got nothing other then a shiny object here ... one state that didn't work... 1 out of 50 not bad I would say ...

as for us hearing about it... it was all over Msnbc thats where I heard it ... Rachel Maddow aired it several times ... Ed Schultz aired it too ... why didn't fox have it on ... you do realizes this is old news ... Ive always said republicans are slow in the head to catch on to whats going on in the country ... unless hannity or rush tells them they are clueless ...

So why spend 300 million....err.....lose 300 million?

because we can ... look at Iraq... or anything the republicans did in the last 30 years ...didn't hear you complaining about that ... 1 state out of 50 ... I would say that's very good, almost on the side of excellent ... if you had a test ... on that test you had 50 questions ....and you missed 1 question ... to republican you've a failed

actually the federal government is going after the company I believe the company name is orcale ... they are doing something ... nice try to spin another nutter lie

Do you mean that they relied on a private company to do the job...and that company failed?
Perhaps the government should have done the project themselves.
Maybe then it would have been done properly.

Oregon Health Plan Apply for Health Coverage in Oregon

That's expanded Medicaid.

Guess what?

So far, about 242,000 Oregonians have enrolled in coverage through Cover Oregon. About 70,000 of those enrolled in private health plans, while 172,000 enrolled in the Oregon Health Plan.

DURHAM, Ore. — Oregon officials voted unanimously Friday to jettison the state's disastrous health insurance exchange and switch to the federal system, admitting disappointment and defeat in an arena where the state had been a trailblazer.
