This is a modernism-mark themed parable inspired by the crime-confidence film The Dead Pool.

Everyone in Los Angeles was purchasing obsidian-bracelets from the alternative jewelry chain The Mala Tree. One branch location was now opening in Beverly Hills, and all the celebrities (Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Don Imus, Martin Scorsese) went there. When you walked into the Mala Tree, you were greeted by a uniformed female sales-representative who tells you how to begin selecting styles for their personalized obsidian bracelet. A male spiritual counsellor then explains to you (with K2) how to unwind and allow yourself to 'believe' that the network of people wearing these bracelets comprise a very real and very modern pedestrian empire (or realm!).

A visitor to The Mala Tree, an Aussie tourist named Rory Dundee, wanted to know if there were superstitions attached to the wearing of these now very iconic obsidian-bracelets. In fact, there were some supernatural 'tales' surrounding this modern/chic bracelet-wearing 'community' in L.A. The store executive, a blonde man named Grady, explained to Rory that the bracelets were thought to release 'invisible aromas' that went up to the gods and returned with wind-tides of fortune that would blow in the favor of the person wearing the bracelets. Rory realized this bracelet-wearing community was nothing more than a new age consumerism-hypnotized 'super-cult.'

It wasn't that big of a deal until a deranged copycat killer started hunting down people wearing these bracelets. This copycat modelled himself after the fictional serial killer the 'Night-Slasher' who appears in the urbanization-paranoia crime thriller Cobra (starring Sylvester Stallone). The Night-Slasher wanted to eradicate the sociocultural influence of the Tom Cruise cheerled bracelet-wearing L.A. 'zombies' as he referred to them rather crudely. The Night-Slasher killed 30 people in all and when he killed bracelet-wearing celebrity Wesley Snipes, everyone realized L.A. was now held as a hostage to the forces of urbanization heresy.
