Combatting covid 19 does not appear to be an official reason. Combatting doesn't specify if it is to lower deaths, slow deaths, cure the virus, push socialism and communism, or anything at all. There must be an official reason and goal stated somewhere, or society is in big trouble.

I was watching Liz Wheeler earlier, and she was saying that the lockdowns were only meant to slow down the spread, which is what you are saying with the flattening of the curvd.
