Zone1 Pastor alarmed after Trump-loving congregants deride Jesus' teachings as 'weak'

Hahaha…enlighten me, how do faggot lovers twist the teachings of Genesis to fit for them?

There was no Sodom and Gomorrah at the time of Abraham. It's a morality tale about treatment of strangers/travelers and sexual violence.

Give me an example of "cruel Jesus". And don't say when he turned over the tax tables!
Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' (Mt 22:13)

But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them before me. (Lk 19:27)

You serpents, you brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to hell? (Mt 23:33)

If not, I will come to you soon and war against them with the sword of my mouth. (Rv 2:16)

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees.

Jesus ministered to his people. In the Sermon on the Mount, he was addressing his own people about their customs. If one of their brothers slaps them, then yes, turn the other cheek. Not if a Roman or a Greek or an apostate Jew or anyone else slaps them.

it seems to me that your statement is incorrect in the context of the "sermon on
the mount" assuming it happened. It has been interpreted by some as "kiss roman
ass for the sake of peace" by some people

He was addressing oppressive Roman law and coping with it with nonviolent resistance.

Look what it cost the Jews to fight the Romans

Is the Sermon on the Mount to liberal now? What do Evangelicals think of Jesus's greatest teaching?

Pastor alarmed after Trump-loving congregants deride Jesus' teachings as 'weak'' teachings as 'weak'

Evangelical Christian leader Russell Moore revealed this week that many evangelical pastors have become alarmed that their Trump-loving congregants have become so militant that they are even rejecting the teachings of Jesus Christ.

In an interview with NPR, Moore said that multiple pastors had told him disturbing stories about their congregants being upset when they read from the famous "Sermon on the Mount" in which Christ espoused the principles of forgiveness and mercy as central to Christian doctrine.

"Multiple pastors tell me, essentially, the same story about quoting the Sermon on the Mount, parenthetically, in their preaching — 'turn the other cheek' — [and] to have someone come up after to say, 'Where did you get those liberal talking points?'" Moore revealed. "And what was alarming to me is that in most of these scenarios, when the pastor would say, 'I'm literally quoting Jesus Christ,' the response would not be, 'I apologize.' The response would be, 'Yes, but that doesn't work anymore. That's weak.'"

So now the MAGA crowd thinks Jesus is to liberal? I wish this thread were in the Badlands so I could speak more freely? This is a very disturbing story.

Today's "christians" especially those of the Evangelical, Catholic, or Southern Baptist sects, are about as far from what Jesus (had he been a real being) wanted folks to be as it's possible to be.

They led their flock to the edge of a cliff, some of them fell over. Oh my! It must be Trump's fault. They've been crucifying Jesus every Sunday for years. It's as if dying was the only important thing Jesus ever did.

you see it on here with the so called or self proclaimed christian...is proof there is no greater hate than christian love

seemingly with little realization of what the bible says....

I expect they are only so- called or self- proclaimed when it suits you to see them that way . A simpler explanation might be that many thinking and intelligent people have realised that the so called teachings of the Essene monk lack relevance for today and only work well if you want to be a loser-- as the previous poster(9) nicely reminds us . Except in heaven which does not exist when you look for an address. .

'turn the other cheek'

This is actually a sign of strength and the courage to commit to Christian dogma.

That conservatives see it as ‘weak’ illustrates their propensity for violence as a means of conflict resolution and their lack of understanding of Christian dogma.

They're just ignorant. They can't change and won't.

Yer translator is busted.

What an idiot....

How do you know? HOWEVER you have every reason to believe that since
such action is consistent with a PHARISEE APPROACH which is---"humor
them when necessary for survival" The principle was reiterated many times
by Talmudists ----Like Hillel, and Maimonides-----and others like Josephus
Flavius and accomplished thruout both christendom and the ummah mostly
MORE rather than less

good morning, billo. i don't think evangelicals know much about scripture, but they do identify with the sunday school stories of brave young davie and his semi auto sling shot pwning his progressive king and imagine trump tearing off his ankle bracelet like sampson at the philistine temple.

Evangelicals are destroying Christianity

You are the person the pastor in the OP is worried about.

Translation:
”Evangelicals should approach Christinanity like I do….stop trying to walk with Christ and shit all over ALL biblical principles.”

We got us one here. BrokeLoser (how appropriate) has problems with the Sermon of the Mount. If you don't agree with Christian principles, go find a religion that suits you better.

I’m a big fan of cynical Jesus. The one who will sentence you and those like you to burn for eternity.

Au contraire. When correctly understood and practiced, it is an amazing way of living. The relevance will continue through the ages.

i am not really convinced that a "literal translation" adds to correct understanding, but yes, if we did agree to follow the golden rule we'd have made considerable progress.
