Just never cared for the genre.

His early stuff appealed to me, but somewhere in the eighties he just got excessively wordy. Also, he was never very good with details, especially regarding cars. In The Shining, there was a passage about Jack putting his foot on the E brake---on a VW. I've never seen a VW with a foot E brake. Another of his short story offerings made mention of a cop sitting in his Ford and on the facing page the cop was in a Dodge. C'mon, details. LOL
