Poll: Solid majority (71%) of Americans support Obama’s increase of the minimum wage

The jobs would be in America and not overseas. The government has always had the authority over our market and once tariffs were the only means of funding the government.

Okay, you've made clear you want to ban (or restrict through punitive measures) outsourcing and the importation of foreign goods. So again, tell us how this would make the economy take off.

It would raise the price of every good produced here, creating inflation and shoddy goods. This is what happened to E.Germany and every other country that went the protectionist route.
The miracle is that anyone still believes this who can go to the bathroom by himself.

Giving 2.2% of the 59.7% a raise will just destroy the whole economy according to fools!

No, you're not consistent. If you really believe that then companies will prosper by doubling every wage they pay. Tell me why that isn't a good idea, since it will give their customers so much more money to spend.

Why have you avoided addressing my main point, that imposing a MW keeps many of our most vulnerable citizens from working at all? How do you justify keeping young people from building their resume? How do you justify preventing an elderly person from seeking employment at whatever wage he feels adequate? How do you justify preventing our most uneducated and unintelligent citizens from working at all?

Again, I find that immoral. How do you justify it?

Dub, why do you avoid this point?

You find MW immoral with over 90% of the countries of the world having it and many of the countries that don't have minimum wage have collective bargaining to replace it.

The point that minimum wage is immoral is stupid, but stupid isn't something you recognize.

No, it only results in higher employment, particularly for the young, the elderly, and our most vulnerable citizens trying to find work. Nobody said MW "will just destroy the whole economy". Stop with the over-the-top statements that only YOU bring up.

It's you right-wingers who are fucking dumb. Can you figure out why college educated people don't like your ideology? Try, it sucks!

you are correct, many college indoctrinated people do not understand conservativism or how the economy really works. Thats because they have been indoctrinated by a bunch of egg head professors who have never lived in the real world.

Funny thing though, when those people leave college and begin to work for a living they begin to realize that the profs were full of shit. Some never get it and become wards of the state via the welfare system---which are you?

I don't see the richest people in America being conservatives. It doesn't take indoctrination to learn how to use your mind.

You people only think you have answers and only stupid people believe your bullshit.

people are rich because they are either smart or lucky, once they get rich they play the parties to get richer. Guys like Soros and Buffet play the dems and guys like Romney and Trump play the repubs.

its not partisan with the rich, grow up dub. face the world as it really is.

Another non sequiter. The problems of MW effect those countries as well. So, once again, can you answer the question of how you justify preventing so many people from working at all in exchange for a few workers getting a raise?

The point that minimum wage is immoral is stupid, but stupid isn't something you recognize

Another ad hominem.

How sad.

In the USA corporations like Walmart are parasites that suck up taxpayer funds.

Your socialist babblings are at least entertaining.

Walmart is a taxpayer.
U.S. federal: $5.3 billion
U.S. state and local: $677 million
International: $1.1 billion
Before taxes, the world's largest retailer banked $22.1 billion in profit. After deductions and factoring in its international operations, the company still paid just under a third of that back in taxes to various governments.

The federal tax rate for corporations is 35%. Wal-Mart's effective income tax rate came in just under that, at 32.4%

It works the same way for individuals. Just as a person can lower his or her tax rate through deductions and credits, so too can major corporations, said Scott Hodge, president of the Tax Foundation.

But remember, income taxes aren't the only payments major companies make to the IRS. "Wal-Mart probably collects and pays more sales taxes than any other company on earth," Hodge said.

no one said it would destroy the economy, what was said is that it will not help the economy and will not help the MW earner.

BTW, how many adults are working for MW? how many see MW wage jobs as their life's work?

this whole thing is stupid. MW is for teens and those just entering the workforce.

If you doubled all wages except the top wages it would hurt exports and you would have to solve the outsourcing problem it would generate. The smart thing is to set things like wages and taxes at the right rates and not go to extremes, but knowing that would require someone to be smart and a smart person wouldn't always be talking about stupid things.

The problem with the way our economic system functions is it keeps wages too low and allows outsourcing to keep inflation low. The economic system is designed to protect fortunes and not to build an economy for the people.

I gave you a link to the stats, so calculate it!

How many times does it have to be proven that the majority of MW workers aren't teens?

I'm certain that from your POV the average pumpkin would represent a smart person.

Why don't you idiots check what an economist would say about the raise in MW?

why is this such a big deal to you? are you making minimum wage?

Just wondering if you're capable of posting without an ad hominem attack? Possible?

In any case, here are economists talking about the evils of the minimum wage:

Walter Williams: Minimum wage increases discrimination against poor people | WashingtonExaminer.com

and another:

That reminds me of the time Rosie O' Donnel and Al Gourd made Globes of the planet.

why is this such a big deal to you? are you making minimum wage?

It's only a big deal to me because I'm an American. When I made minimum wage it was during the times when it was the highest and I didn't think it was that much money. Back then gasoline was pumped by people making minimum wage too. The baby boomers were entering the workforce and there were jobs. The banks paid interest. People were buying homes and in ten years owned half the equity of the home. The country was manufacturing it's own goods. Those were much better times before this country was sold out to the rich.

It will help both the economy and the minimum wage earner. This is 2.2% of the work force, working on jobs which don't affect prices all that much. Raising the minimum wage helps far more people than it hurts, and, contrary to the beliefs of the conservatives here has reduced unemployment every time the MW has risen.

BTW, how many adults are working for MW? how many see MW wage jobs as their life's work?

More than 80% of MW workers are adults. Only 20% are teenagers. With the loss of manufacturing jobs overseas, many people will take any job, even a minimum wage job, rather than go on welfare.

this whole thing is stupid. MW is for teens and those just entering the workforce.

It used to be but not any more. With the lack of jobs available for low skill level workers and workers who used to work in plants and factories long since shut down, more and more people have the choice between minimum wage jobs or no jobs. Which would you choose?

Raising the MW will decrease the supply of such jobs, and drive some of those adults into unemployment.

How compassionate of you.
