Pope Francis denounced efforts to limit migration at the U.S.-Mexico border on Sunday, calling out a Texas effort to shut down a Catholic charity “madness.”

The Catholic leader said in a “60 Minutes” interview with Norah O’Donnell that American leaders should instead embrace forgiveness toward migrants entering the country.

“Migration is something that makes a country grow,” he said. “They say that you Irish migrated and brought the whiskey, and that the Italians migrated and brought the mafia. Migrants sometimes suffer a lot. They suffer a lot.”

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) in February attempted to subpoena Annunciation House, a Catholic charity that acts as a temporary boarding house for migrants from Mexico. He accused the group of “alien harboring, human smuggling, and operating a stash house.”

“That is madness. Sheer madness,” Francis said. “To close the border and leave them there, that is madness.”

“The migrant has to be received,” he continued, advocating against GOP efforts to close the southern border. “Thereafter, you see how you are going to deal with him. Maybe you have to send him back, I don’t know, but each case ought to be considered humanely.”

Says the man in the pointy hat who lives in a city walled off by 30 foot walls and where ingress/egress are tightly controlled by men with guns.....Walls for me but not for thee.

Air Abbott needs to airlift a few thousand into Vatican City.

What would Jesus do?

A couple of things:
60 Minutes is notorious for selectively editing out certain things in order to promote the leftist agenda and to divide others. For example, we don't know if the pope differentiated between legal or illegal pr refugees. "Migrants" can be used to cover any or all the above. It may come as a surprise to detractors of the Catholic position on immigration, but the Catholic Church acknowledges and supports the right of nations to control their borders and to enforce their laws.

The other thing is this pope does not speak much English, and in this interview 60 minutes used a translator. It is a well-known fact the leftist worldwide media misinterprets, mistranslates, and outright lies about what this pope has said.
We saw that with the media headline last year blaring "Pope endorses same-sex unions", which of course he never came close to doing.
I mean, we see the leftwing misrepresentation within our own language; their claim that Trump said to use inject "bleach" for COVID, when he used the term "disinfectant" which includes, btw, penicillin and all antibiotics. They do similar lies with this pope.

So my point is we really don't know what the pope said unless we saw the full transcript accurately translated.

Saying the pope is not allowed to comment because Vatican City has walls and guards is specious because any world leader needs security, just as the White House has fences and security. The pope can't operate out of a Motel 6.

If he's that handicapped by his language barrier maybe he should not be doing interviews with the MSM.

Given his track record I've no doubt he meant exactly what he said.

That's not how I read it. Pope Francis stated that shutting down the non profit shelter was "madness". He went on to say that some migrants may need to be sent back, etc. His overall statement was on "how" to control migration - and his statements align with the teachings of Christianity.

If migrants have already crossed over, a non profit shelter to house them until they are "processed accordingly" would lessen the burden on the state of Texas, etc. (There would be no need to house them by the state or bus them to other states, etc) I'm not sure how shutting down a shelter for migrants AFTER they already crossed over will help control future migrants from crossing over.

So asks a lib who does not accept Jesus as the Son of God and Savior of mankind

Doesn’t matter if he was the Son of God or not, Jesus still had strong views on helping those who are suffering

Eliminate the amenities and they won't come....At least not as many.

Pope Francis is not popular with most Catholics.
Not quite. His ratings have dropped some from a few years ago but the majority (75%) of Catholics in the US still view him favorably.

Catholics’ views of Pope Francis

The 75% favorability rating for Pope Francis by U.S. Catholics represents a decrease of 8 points from the last time we asked this question, in September 2021. Then, 83% said they viewed him mostly or very favorably.

The overall drop in favorability reflects growing dissatisfaction with the current pope among Catholics who identify as Republicans or independents who lean toward the Republican Party. Fully 35% of Catholic Republicans and Republican leaners now say they have an unfavorable view of Pope Francis, compared with just 7% of Catholic Democrats and Democratic leaners.

Close the border, to PROTECT the American people.
That sounds like something Republican Jesus would say

Like Laken Riley, and hundreds of others killed by illegal aliens. And all the Americans who "are suffering" these HARMS >>>

Harms of Illegal Immigration

1. Americans lose jobs. (especially Whites due to affirmative action).
2. Wage reduction.
3. Tax $ lost (due to off books work + lower wages paid).
4. Remittance $$$ lost. ($148 Billion/year). Remittance flows worldwide in 2017
5. Tax $$ lost to immigrants on welfare.
6. Increased crime.
7. Increased traffic congestion.
8. Increased pollution.
9. Overcrowding in hospital ERs.
10. Overcrowding in recreational facilities.
11. Overcrowding in government offices.
12. Overcrowding in schools.
13. Decrease in funds available for entitlements.
14. Cultural erosion.
15. Overuse of scarce resources (oil, gasoline, fresh water, jobs, electricity, food, etc)
What states are in danger of running out of water?

Water scarcity is a major concern across the world, and the United States is no exception. The western parts of the United States, including California, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico, have been experiencing water

19. Litter
20. Housing saturation.
21. Excessively high housing costs.

In theory that could work but in practice it's unlikely. Many of the migrants are basically being trafficked by organizations for profit. Those organizations couldn't care less if they have "adequate" amenities once they cross over.

Immigrants, both legal and illegal help our economy and provide valuable, low cost labor.
