Pope says too much emphasis on gays, abortion and contraception

Pope Francis better get a food taster, if he doesn't already have one. First he says to stop fixating solely on social issues, and then he starts talking socialism, at least as it's defined by the right.

Pope Francis 'Slum Pope' Visits Varginha Favela To Huge Welcome

"No one can remain insensitive to the inequalities that persist in the world!" Francis told a crowd of thousands who braved a cold rain and stood in a muddy soccer field to welcome him. "No amount of peace-building will be able to last, nor will harmony and happiness be attained in a society that ignores, pushes to the margins or excludes a part of itself."

...

Francis blasted what he said was a "culture of selfishness and individualism" that permeates society today, demanding that those with money and power share their wealth and resources to fight hunger and poverty.

All are sins, but to differing degrees. Abortion is the willful destruction of life, contraception is the prevention of life, and homosexuality is the misuse of sexual activity (which is supposed to result in life).

Yea...yea

And if you don't stop masterbating you will go blind

The church has better things to do than obsess over the bedroom activities of their parish. Things like hunger, illness, poverty

You know....the stuff Jesus used to be concerned about

Actually opponents of the church focus on this stuff FAR MORE than the actual clergy. I guess its the progressives natural inability to be able to take being told not to do something because its wrong.

The reason the American Church does not focus on it is because they realize they are wrong and American Catholics are not buying it

Married couples like to have sex. It is part of being married and most sex is the result of passion and not a desire to procreate. American Catholics do not want to have 8-10 kids like the did before birth control. They do not believe birth control is "wrong" and basically laugh at the church as the priest looks the other way

Then they don't have to follow it, but that doesnt mean that it isnt a sin, or the church has to change its position.

Im unmarried, having sex, and using Birth control, I have no desire to see the church change its position even if I still consider myself marginally a Catholic.

Am I sinning? Yes. Does it bother me? A little. Am I going to stop? probably not.

Plus there is always FORGIVENESS, even for sins alot worse than this.

Pope seeks less focus on abortion, gays, contraception

Pope Francis says bluntly that the church has been too focused on the issues of abortion, gay marriage and contraception and suggests it find a "new balance" to deliver its message. We cannot insist only on issues related to abortion, gay marriage and the use of contraceptive methods," Pope Francis said. "This is not possible

On other points:

•The role of the church: "The thing the church needs most today is the ability to heal wounds and to warm the hearts of the faithful; it needs nearness, proximity. I see the church as a field hospital after battle."

•Homosexuality: "A person once asked me, in a provocative manner, if I approved of homosexuality. I replied with another question: 'Tell me: when God looks at a gay person, does he endorse the existence of this person with love, or reject and condemn this person?' We must always consider the person."

•Women in the church:- "The feminine genius is needed wherever we make important decisions. The challenge today is this: to think about the specific place of women also in those places where the authority of the church is exercised for various areas of the church."

Abortion, contraception and homosexulaity are all part of the Globalists' war on the family. Previos Popes have been anti-death culture of these Globalists. I hope this Pope stands his moral ground.

Islam is really popular with the inflexible devout believers, they even get to stone ya' to death. I guess that is why Islam has so many more adherents, they hold to tradition and they are interactive. PLUS! They breed like bloody rabbits...They don't like mockery very much, they can put insolent doubters to death. Who can argue with that? Viva ISLAM! You thought the FOX network or the Republican Party was bad...Wow.

Wow, the Pope says the exact same thing the Catholic Church has been saying for 100 years, and the left wing media makes it into a big story. What am I missing here?

I am not Catholic, and believe the Church did more to harm the message of Christ than help it, but that doesn't mean I can't be honest about them.

Other than pointing out that you hate Islam.....what does it have to do with this thread?

I generally ignore the media, especially when they are so stupid they think saying the same thing is something new.

If you thought that it meant that Pope Francis was going to be more gay friendly, you had obviously deluded yourself.

Pope Francis excommunicates pro-gay marriage priest. He's not the liberal the media wants ? Telegraph Blogs

From all of last week's headlines saying that the Pope wants to forget this nonsense about abortion and gays, you'd imagine that Germaine Greer had been elected to run the Catholic Church. Actually what the Pope was saying was that he wants the Church to talk more about what it's for than what it's against. But that doesn't mean it won't still be against those things that contradict its teachings and traditions.

Just ask Greg Reynolds of Melbourne – a priest who appears to have been both defrocked and excommunicated because of his radical views on women clergy and gay marriage.

Reynolds has, like many liberals, misunderstood Francis' words. Structural reform is clearly necessary to prevent future horrors like the child abuse scandal, and renewal is something that Christians always desire. But Reynolds would throw out Catholic doctrine – something Francis would never do because he is, despite the best wishes of so many in the media, a Catholic
