1st generation immigrants rarely fully integrate. Their children and grandchildren do. It is the same all over the world. My grandmother learned only badly broken english. Her 3 children became a lawyer, a doctor, and a CPA. Between her grandchildren there are 2 PhD’s, soon to be a third, and 5 masters degrees, with 2 more working on the undergrad degrees.

Maybe now they don't fully integrate, but many years ago (like my mother's family in 1929) they did. And if they could integrate during those tough depression and world war years, they can integrate now. These immigrants today don't immigrate for 2 reasons >>

2. They have multiculturalist liberals helping them to retain their old language and culture with Spanish TV, radio, telephone, etc

It isn't a matter of economic class. It is a matter of nationalism vs internationalism. Allowing unrestrained immigration is tough on the American poor, with increases in competition for jobs, low income housing, welfare, etc. etc.

Your grandmother may have, but the overwhelming majority didn’t. Because they didn’t need to. Because they moved to places where people from their countries had settled. Which is what has always happened all over the world for all of human history.

You're wrong. 100 years ago, immigrants may have settled in immigrant communities, but they grew out of that quickly and emerged as full-fledged Americans, speaking English fluently, and even without an accent, just like my mother and her whole family, and many other people who I met in my younger years in the 1950s.

I grew up in New York City, which had a very large population of immigrants. I don't have to have read about these people in books. I knew them personally, and talked to them every day.
