Not always, but in this case, it certainly does not mean what any rational person would take “public safety” to mean; unless one defines the “public” to only include tyrants and violent criminals.

The Second Amendment explicitly says to whom this right belongs, and it is neither the state nor the federal government.

The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.

When the Ku Klux Klan got laws passed to restrict the rights of black people to possess arms, nothing was offered in return.

When criminal gangster-turned-politician Timothy Sullivan got a law passed in New York to assure that the power to determine who could and could not “legally” obtain and possess arms was in the hands of someone allied with his own gang, nothing was offered in return.

When the Democratic Party adopted gun control as a part of its platform, as way to combat the image that they were “soft on crime” without doing anything to actually offend or harm violent criminals who have long been an important constituency to them; nothing was offered in return.


Now that it's all falling apart; now that the scales have fallen from the public eyes with regard to how we've been duped over more than a century into giving up one of our most essential Constitutional right; now that the courts are striking down these blatantly unconstitutional scams; now that gun control laws are falling like leaves in autumn; now that the American people are taking back what has always been rightfully ours; now the gungrabbing scum say that they want to “compromise”. But their cry for “compromise” doesn't seem to mean anything other than to condemn us for wanting all of what is rightfully ours, and being on a clear path to take all of it back.
