Why teachers are fleeing Arizona in droves


"Teachers have been fleeing Arizona in droves, resulting in such a serious shortage of experienced teachers that state officials are warning of serious consequences if the exodus continues.

Over the last five years, thousands of teachers have left the state, according to a 2015 report by the Arizona Department of Education, with this past school year being possibly the worst. The report warns if teachers keep leaving, “students will not meet their full potential” and “Arizona will not be able to ensure economic prosperity for its citizens and create the workforce of tomorrow.” It calls for increased pay for teachers and more overall education funding in the state."

The conservative fix for education is to blame teachers, break the teachers' unions, cut pay and benefits for teachers, make the job tougher for teachers and somehow,

magically, conservatives believe that will get us better teachers who will better educate America's children.

Of course that sounds insane, and it is, and the proof is showing up as in this article.

That does not of course mean that they are masters of the subject....as in possess PhDs or Masters or even degrees in them...but they must be able to teach them to an acceptable standard...ie, teach to the age relevant level. And that goes for even specialists in those areas.

What about parents who don't see any value in education (trust me they unfortunately DO exist)? What makes parents experts on education?

Don't get me wrong: I think that unions (at least in my district) need to be reformed. They do a lot that I disagree with (and a lot that I do agree with). Personally I'm in the union for one reason and one reason alone: if a student sues me (and we all know how sue happy our nation has become), they'll pay for my lawyers. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't be in the union.

However let me paint you a picture...this past year on our conference nights (we have a total of 4 a year)...do you know what my highest turnout was from parents? THREE. That's right that's not a typo: THREE and in 3. I teach a total of roughly 148-153 students at any given time.

PS: I'm a teacher who did NOT vote for Obama and is NOT a liberal.

PS: I'm a teacher who did NOT vote for Obama and is NOT a liberal.

A teacher at the kid's school was accused of bad stuff; she suicided. Union "assistance" was to plead guilty so she would get a reduced sentence. No consequences on the brats who brought the charge who later admitted they made it up.

Good luck with relying on the Union for legal advice/fees.
