Quick: Name a "Democracy"

Ahh.. yet another in line with the moronic thinking of minds such as TDM

No.. we are not a 'representative democracy'.. we are not a democracy at all.. we do not have majority rule.. and rightfully so

We are a constitutional representative republic... where the constitution trumps the will of the majority if it is not in line with the constitution itself.. it is there, in fact, to protects us against the tyranny of the majority and is supposed to be there to limit the federal government to limit its tyranny as well

We do have majority rule, except in cases that conflict with the Constitution. That's why this needs to be in the Rubber Room. The people that fall for the "we're not a democracy" line, never seem to be able see beyond their own bias. When we elect representitives, majority rules. When we draft most laws, majority rules. But sometimes it's like talking to a wall. :eusa_wall:

No.. sorry.. having the law of the land governed by the constitution is not majority rule.. as a matter of fact, mandates, etc continually thwart the whole concept of majority rule

We only elect CERTAIN representatives by majority rule.. and that is ONLY because it is the mandate for that... there could be other ways mandated as legal and our system would still run... FOR WE ARE NOT A DEMOCRACY... we are a republic.. plain and simple

The fact that most issues ARE decided by majority rule makes us a democracy, as well as a constitutional republic. The two ARE NOT mutually exclusive.

The United States is a Republic. Moron.

Nowhere in the Constitution of The United States of America is the word 'democracy' mentioned.

Do you people go to College and major in 'Stupid' or does it come naturally?

I really wanna know.

Why would it have to say it anywhere? Democracy is a form of government where the majority rules and in most instances that's how it goes. Constitutional issues effecting that principle are the exception not the norm.

If you use the word 'democracy' as a generic term, then you are correct. Our form of democracy (From the Greek, 'People' and 'government') then yes, we could be considered a 'FORM' of democracy.

But we're not a 'direct democracy'.

I don't have the time......

We're a Republic,

We don't sing the 'Battle Hymn of The democracy" Or swear allegiance to "The democracy for which stands"....

We're a Republic. A form government by the people.

Not a democracy.

The Athenians tried it. And failed. The French tried a modified version. It failed -- Catastrophically.

I would say that many Parliamentary system, especially WITHOUT a Constitution like the UK, might be more closely compared to a 'democracy'. But they're a mess anyway

What makes us a Republic is our unique Constitution. It is unlike any other in the world. It is inviolate. It is permanent. It can not be changed except through a difficult and lengthy process.

The US Constitution is NOT the Law.

It is ABOVE the Law. It is what All of our Laws are based on.

We are a Republic.

I never said we weren't a republic. The claim was that we we're not a democracy. I'm not the one that claims they're mutually exclusive and apparently now you're back tracking and admitting the same.

The United States was never set up to be a democracy but a Republic. Even Ben Franklin knew it wouldn't last forever. It would eventually succumb to a corrupt people who would elect corrupt leaders.

Republics can be democracies. They are called democratic republics.

Why is every fucking conservative on the planet too ignorant to understand that simple concept?

Because Conservatives know that America is a Constitutional Republic.
Not a Democratic Republic.
There is a big difference between the two.
Democrats and many Republicans have turned us into a Democratic Republic.

We're a democratic republic with a constitution.

The 'majority' can't change or abolish the Constitution. It takes the Amendment process.

Unless you wanna start a War. I'd be okay with that

How many times did you flunk 6th Grade?

Next thing, you'll be telling us we have a right to vote....

Unbelievable.

1. If you said 'the United States'.....read on.

2. The latest variation of totalitarianism is neither religious, nor even political: it is cultural. “Totalitarian democracy” is a term made famous by J. L. Talmon to refer to a system of government in which lawfully elected representatives maintain the integrity of a nation state whose citizens, while granted the right to vote, have little or no participation in the decision-making process of the government.

a. Cultural totalitarianism is rule by the individual freed from all external authority or constraints, morality fully privatized with Judeo-Christian traditions under attack.

b. Moral and cultural relativism are predominant; no lifestyle is better than any other.

c. Paradoxically, relativist doctrine becomes absolutely unassailable: it brooks no challenges or deviations.

3. The cornerstone of Progressive doctrine is an administrative state freed from the constraints of the Constitution, in which bureaucrats carry out and produce regulations for every aspect of private and public life.

a. Michels's Iron Law of Oligarchy The "iron law of oligarchy" states that all forms of organization, regardless of how democratic they may be at the start, will eventually and inevitably develop oligarchic tendencies, thus making true democracy practically and theoretically impossible, especially in large groups and complex organizations. The relative structural fluidity in a small-scale democracy succumbs to "social viscosity" in a large-scale organization. According to the "iron law," democracy and large-scale organization are incompatible.

4. "Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter … in the wake of the NSA spying scandal criticized the American political system. “America has no functioning democracy,” Carter said Tuesday at a meeting of the “Atlantic Bridge” in Atlanta.
Many other high-level U.S. officials have also warned that the U.S. is no longer a democracy.

Carter also said that the moral authority of of the U.S. has sharply declined due to excessive restriction of civil rights.

Holy sheeshkabob!!!

I can't recall the last time I agreed with 'Peanuts' Carter!!!

Was it yesterday or the day before that you were cheering the prospect of a Senator Liz Cheney?

Was it this decade or last when you came up with an argument?

Yesterday PC was cheering on Liz Cheney, who is as ardent a defender of the NSA program as you will find.

Today she's cheering Jimmy Carter's attacks on the NSA.

She won't explain her idiocy. Maybe you can.

The amendment process is a 'majority' exercise you retard. A large enough majority can make the Constitution say anything they want it to.

We have protections for minorities in our system of laws only because majorities decided they'd be in there.

That is irrefutable fact.

What I fail to understand, is how that has anything to do with this thread. Perhaps you can explain that to me. She did say she supported it. But what you can do is stay on topic.

Because that manner is legal and that majority decision does not violate the constitution.. ANY majority decision can and should and WILL be overturned by the US constitution.. we do not rule by majority rule... we are governed by the constitution above all else.. above the majority, above the elected congress, above the electoral college selected president, above the appointed judiciary, and above the other officials that are chosen in HUNDREDS of different ways

WE ARE NOT A DEMOCRACY.... where majority rule would be the mainstay and would be the final say.. WE ARE A REPUBLIC

Go get 50.00001% to declare it void.. see where it gets you

You already have a number willing to sign petitions to help Obama do away with the bill of rights. I am sure you can get more idiots like those

We are a democratic republic. The power rests in the hands of the people. That is what a democracy is.

Not a Democratic Republic.
There is a big difference between the two.

We're a democratic republic with a constitution.

No we are not.
We are a Constitutional Republic.
A Constitutional Republic is a state where the officials are elected as representatives of the people, and must govern according to existing constitutional law that limits the government's power over citizens.

A Constitutional Republic is the current form of government in the United States. However in recent years, many people have criticized the federal government for moving away from a Constitutional Republic, as defined by the Constitution, and towards a pure democracy, (which we are not).

TeamLaw.org defines a Constitutional Republic as follows:

A Republic, by definition, has two principle elements. First, it is controlled by Law; therefore, it does not control Law. Second, it recognizes the private independent sovereign nature of each person (man or woman) of competent age and capacity; therefore, a Republic must be representative in its nature.

A Republic recognizes Law is unchangeable, or at least that it can only be changed by a higher source than government. In a Republic the concept of “collective sovereignty” cannot exist, except with recognition that the State or nation, as a body of sovereigns, can speak through one elected voice; though that one voice can never lawfully interfere with the private rights of the individual sovereigns.

“A Constitutional Republic” is a government created and controlled, at least, by the Law of a Constitution. The Constitution of the United States of America was, in Law, a foundation based on the Bible, the Magna Carta and the Declaration of Independence. Those documents recognize man’s sovereignty, the divine nature of man’s creation and man’s divine right to Life, Liberty, the means of acquiring and possessing Property, and the pursuit of happiness.

The purpose of a Constitutional Republic is to place limits on the tyranny of the majority

Anything not explicitly permitted to Congress by the Constitution is reserved for the States or the People -- Amendment 10
Something that our government has been doing for a very long time is taking over the States rights.

Our Federal Government is not suppose to run our education system, Our health Care System nor welfare programs or social programs. These should be run by our States.
Our Federal government is stepping on and violating all of our Bill of Rights.

Our Federal Government is now controlling and violating the laws not living under the laws.
