Ready for Boots on the Ground in Iraq?

Oh bullshit. It's a no brainer on what he could have done. When Iraq was asking for drone strikes against ISIS he could have delivered and prevented the invasion of ISIS. Last summer they were asking for help to contain this terror army. Obama voted present.

This has to be in the top ten most stupid, uninformed and error-ridden comments on the Daesh invasion into Iraq. Here is why. Tinydancer insisted on August 14, 2014 that drone strikes against ISIS could have prevented the invasion of ISIS into Iraq last summer. That is not close to being possible. We know that IS terrorists did not originally 'invade' Iraq 'last summer'. The terrorists non-identified themselves as ISIS or ISIL joined the Anbar Sunni anti-government rebellion towards the end of 2013. ISIS did not 'invade' originally in open military fashion. They came in to defend Fallujah from Iraqi government troops trying to maintain order in parts of Anbar and other Sunni dominated areas. Then they turned on their allies and announced they were taking over. There is no way 'drone strikes' would have worked as Tinydancer has so foolishly maintained.

By Sam Wilkin | Reuters, London Tuesday, 14 October 2014 - U.S.-led air strikes have significantly reduced Islamic State of Syria and Iraq’s ISIS) ability to produce, smuggle and refine oil, the International Energy Agency said in its monthly report on Tuesday, citing Western and Iraqi officials.
The coalition’s targeting of ISIS-held oil infrastructure has knocked crude production down to around 20,000 barrels per day (bpd) from a high of about 70,000 bpd achieved after the group expanded its territory over the summer, the report said.
The United States and its allies, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, began launching air strikes against ISIS in Iraq in August, and in Syria in September, including targeted strikes against oilfields and refineries controlled by the group.
In parallel, the governments of Turkey and Iraq’s Kurdistan Region have cracked down on ISIS’s smuggling of crude oil, which had brought in revenue estimated at $1 million to $3 million for the radical Sunni Islamist group.
The crackdown has cut smuggling to less than 10,000 bpd from a high of 30,000 bpd, unnamed officials said in the report.
As well as production capacity, ISIS captured up to 3 million barrels of crude oil stocks from storage facilities and pipelines during its rapid advance through Iraqi territory, the report said.
Air strikes have also destroyed dozens of small-scale or “teapot” refineries controlled by the group, which have sprung up in Syria since the beginning of the civil war in 2011.
ISIS needs access to gasoline and diesel to fuel its war effort, and knocking out the refineries will curtail its ability to use the tanks and other military vehicles which it has captured from Syrian and Iraqi forces.
The group has launched waves of attacks against Baiji, Iraq’s largest refinery, since June, but failed to capture it.
“With their oil assets diminished, the militants are determined to gain access to additional sources of fuel and revenue,” the IEA said. Last Update: Tuesday, 14 October 2014 KSA 13:49 - GMT 10:49

the weeks since the United States mounted its first airstrikes against ISIS and pledged to “degrade and destroy” the militants, it appears the Sunni extremists are showing no signs of slowing down.

ISIS militants have slaughtered hundreds of government troops, beheaded Western hostages and on Monday flew their black flag on the outskirts of a key Syrian border town — despite an aerial bombardment by American and Gulf state planes.

So what then have the airstrikes accomplished? Not much, according to analysts.

And we are killing the IS animals at the Battle for Kobani by the multiple hundreds. They are getting pounded day after day. They keep sending in reinforcements and we keep slaughtering them. Kobani was predicted to fall weeks ago. Air strikes have kept the Kurd fighters from defeat and helped them turn the tide. The strategy of degrading and the airmen conducting the strikes are working and winning.

John McCain Criticizes Iraq Air Strikes As 'Ineffective'

WASHINGTON, Aug 10 (Reuters) - The United States conducted a new round of air strikes on Sunday against Islamic State militants in Iraq while congressional Republicans slammed President Barack Obama's intervention as ineffective and called for more aggressive military steps.

Republican Representative Peter King of New York criticized Obama for insisting he will not send U.S. ground troops to combat Islamic State forces in Iraq, adding that the United States has been too timid in the crisis so far.

"We should take nothing off the table. We (should) start off with massive air attacks," King, a member of the House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee, told NBC'S "Meet the Press" program.

"I think doing them from aircraft carriers is limiting them. We should use bases in the area so we can have much more sustained air attacks. We should be aggressively arming the Kurds," King added.

Mass graves - transitory. Military coups - noise. ISIS direct calls for American blood - no problem. Siding with another unelected leader without being sure - new normal foreign policy. Arming kurd fighters - sure why not. Saving a few 100 Yazidi in the name of humanitarianism (oh and the oil sshh) - priceless. We hope President Obama has had a restful morning on his vacation at Martha's Vineyard as he speaks on the latest political developments in Iraq (which last week he explained were crucial if the army was ever to fight for the 'nation' ever again). Just a reminder, the call is 'audio only' - listen hard for the calls of 'fore' in the background.

Still fuzzy on why we care about what's happening in Iraq. Seems a surly terror group is whatever country's problem they're running amok in. Unless of course it really is about oil. If ISIS is threatening oil, well then that must be stopped. Otherwise I don't see the imperative.

Are the Airstrikes Against ISIS Working?
BY CASSANDRA VINOGRAD

the weeks since the United States mounted its first airstrikes against ISIS and pledged to “degrade and destroy” the militants, it appears the Sunni extremists are showing no signs of slowing down.

Not really.

US struggles to turn the tide in war against ISIS

WASHINGTON: After more than two months of air strikes, a US-led coalition has prevented the fall of a northern Syrian town to Islamic State jihadists but is still struggling to halt the group's advances on other fronts, experts say.

Since the air war on the IS militants began on August 8, the United States and its allies have few concrete successes to point to as the IS group has continued to roll ahead in western Iraq and tighten its grip elsewhere.

The pinch is coming for the dipstick Obama. Now that he is committed to bombing tumbleweeds and desert oasis, guess what? What, no empty pharmacies to send T-Hawks into? Its not working

NF regarding Gx001 9611012: How about a little follow up to the August 12, 2014 attempt to undermine the US military effort against Daesh, the IS terrorists. We see Geaux4it ridiculed the potential targets that could be found in Iraq and Syria. He cites tumbleweeds and desert oasis, empty pharmacies. We've had a couple months - what has been targeted besides just out right killing the worthless human waste when they attempt to move about in military vehicles.

Excerpt: "U.S.-led air strikes have significantly reduced Islamic State of Syria and Iraq’s ISIS) ability to produce, smuggle and refine oil... "

Let's look at things in the October 7 report you are citing which was published eight days before the report I cited that explained the impact on Daesh's cash flow following the destruction of oil and gasoline production facilities in Syria. Remember the loss of revenue terrorists receive from operations in Syria will detrimentally impact the ability of Daesh to fund its terror operation in Iraq.

Strike assessments coming in from officials have detailed direct hits on trucks, command and control centers, and small numbers of ISIS fighters. That’s not much to boast about, according to Schenker. With ISIS numbers estimated to range in the tens of thousands, “it’s hard to be very enthusiastic about” an airstrike that kills a small handful of militants, he said.

“Tactical strikes in Iraq helped prevent the massacre of thousands of Yazidis and helped Kurdish forces regain control of a decisive dam near Mosul. Since then, though, few tangible gains are visible — especially in Syria. “

“Are these airstrikes worth it?” Matthew Henman, manager of IHS Janes Terrorism and Insurgency Center, said. “At the moment, it appears to be pretty mixed.” <> While there are some signs that tactical strikes in northern Iraq have helped slow the ISIS offensive, “its nothing revolutionary,””

“No alternative <> Experts agree that ISIS cannot be destroyed from the air — but that doesn’t mean there’s another option yet. <> “The administration knows full well that airstrikes alone won’t succeed in degrading or destroying ISIS,” said David L. Phillips, the director of Peace-Building and Rights Program at Columbia University. “Since President Obama has made clear there will be no U.S. boots on the ground, we need to find friends in Iraq and Syria who are prepared to confront ISIS.”

(A) I am as appreciative of our military forces when they kill one terrorist as I am when dozens of them are killed. (B)And from the Report, "there are some signs that tactical strikes in northern Iraq have helped slow the ISIS offensive, “its nothing revolutionary" . That is horrible commentary. No one in the Administration says the initial air strikes were going to be 'revolutionary'.. (C) And the report states the obvious, " “The administration knows full well that airstrikes alone won’t succeed in degrading or destroying ISIS."

(D) Most importantly this report concedes that the air strikes have had a major impact in Iraq. Their boo-hooing is mostly related to Syria. This report becomes more foolish and not well done as time passes.

(E) I'd like you to address the oil infrastructure under the control of Daesh that has been severely degraded by air strikes in Syria and without a single US Boot on the Ground there. IF you still think that is nothing you are a fool and it evidence that you have no intelligent input on this military operation that may go on for a year before major significant destruction of Daesh has been accomplished. And that is what the Obama administration has explained to those who wish to listen to what our president and dozens of 'experts' actually been said.

The pinch is coming for the dipstick Obama. Now that he is committed to bombing tumbleweeds and desert oasis, guess what?

What, no empty pharmacies to send T-Hawks into?

Its not working

So, the decision will have to be made at some point.

Cut and run like he did last time? Leave it to turn into a crap hole like it is today? Just another Obama Syria screw-up?

Or will he put boots on the ground to do the job?

I say he'll leave them to die and go golf

President Obama "Phones It In" To Explain How Well Things Are Going In Iraq - Live Feed

This is exactly what ISIS want, boots on the ground.

It's hardly surprising that the right would fall for this.

its what the RW's want too... it makes it easy to blame Obama for starting another war.
