During the time the AR-15 has been on the market I was in the military so where two of my children, a cousin, two Uncles, my Father, and maternal Grandfather. None of us were issued an AR-15. It has never been issued to US troops. Functionally it is no different than a .227 Hunting rifle.

Cosmetics does not make a firearm a military weapon.

Actually that is not true.

It is legal to own an automatic weapon, but the permits/regulations that are required to do so are very expensive.

You also have to give ATF the right to search your property at any time.

But you can own one if you wish.
