Report details how GOP lost young voters

No chuckle head. Once people get out in the real world and get a little life experience they become Republicans.

I started out as a Republican and became a Democrat. So did many other posters on this board

No, you didn't. You've been a Leftist since your first post here.

You, Jake and Bucs and others have some bizarre notion that we will take you more seriously because you claim to once have been a Republican

More seriously than if you were to claim to once having been sane.

It is certainly rare for a conservative party to win the young vote. It is less likely when so many of the young are minorities. I am surprised they got 40%, which is higher than I'd expected.

Despite what many think, not all young people are whiny Entitlement brats. And i admit i've been guilty of thinking that myself sometimes. But most young people i've talked to recently, are very concerned with this increasingly over-reaching Nanny/Police State. They want less Government. They want to be left alone. More & more are turning away from the Socialists/Progressives and Neocons. And i'm actually optimistic the GOP will embrace these new-thinking young people eventually. So i wouldn't bury the Republican Party just yet. There is hope.

OK, that made me laugh

Who hacked your account?

Frank simply does not want to accept the great mainstream of the GOP are marginalizing the far right reactionary and libertarian wings. The wacks are hoping to match Bachmann against Franken in the election next year in Minnesota, not understanding she can't make it through the primary.

Damn......can we play you guys or what?

Scream about entitlements, whine about entitlements being wasted

But you wont lift a finger to find jobs. Outstanding job defining what Republicans really think of the poor.

And you wonder why young voters want nothing to do with you?

Why do they need help to get a job? And dont say it's because they dont have any jobs in their area. I road the bus an hour and a half each way to work in my youth.
They're lazy,plane and simple.

Now this old lib will be 70 before the year is out. I have slowed the hours at work, only 40 to 45 hours a week as a millwright in a steel mill. So I have been going to college once again since last fall. And I see about the same ratio of hard workers to lazy slobs as I saw there over 40 years ago.

I find your 'I worked so hard and all the kids today are lazy' spiel the same one I hear from so many my age, and even 30 years younger, to excuse their own physical and intellectual laziness.

Now why would young people need help getting a job today? Simple. Because there are not that many jobs left that do not require at least two years of training. And so few of the youth of today know where the demand for workers is at. Our entertainment today does not picture the really good jobs as worth having. How often do you see electricians and millwrights? Yet I, and many others in these fields routinely crack six figures. And my company simply cannot fill the jobs we have for craftsmen in these fields.

Today, there is all too much emphasis on a college education. So the kids work their butts off to get a degree, and either cannot find a job, or end up with pay just a bit above what you would get at McD's. In the meantime, those going into a craftsmen apprentice program are making good wages by their second year of apprenticeship.

Yes, the kids today do need some help in discovering what jobs are really out there, what the training is that they need to have, and help in getting that training. And the nation will be better off for helping them. And those like you that are jealous of the youth, will continue to try to deny them oppertunity, and deny the nation their needed talents.

I was in machine shops for twenty five years. Nobody can tell you what kind of job you want. Only you can do that. And with the internet, which wasn't around in my youth, you should be able to find something that interests you and go after it.
The whole idea that government is the answer is nuts. Get out there and apply yourself and good things happen.
Kids today are afraid to fail because of the false sense of worth hammered into them since kindergarten. You end up with a bunch of timid loud mouths with a sense of entitlement.

I certainly hope you're right.
Listening to the American citizens who were targeted by the IRS should open some eyes.

As I've stated since I've joined the board......I voted for Reagan and Daddy Bush four times.

It was not until the Republican Party went crazy in the early 1990s that I abandoned the party for good

Coservatives should purchase their votes with free weed, free booze, free contraception, free tuition, and a subsidized itunes account..........for the good of the country.............Forward!!! Lol

Went crazy?...As in spending more and expanding bureaucratic bloat like never before?

Yeah, that's why I quit voting for republicans in '96....But I wasn't so stupid as to throw in with the turds who are even worse than them.

The problem, which is diminishing somewhat and will pick up next year after the elections, remains some of our older reactionary leadership who just can't get that they are on the way out of the evolving GOP. Most of the younger leadership has been rising out of the mainstream, and they want a 21st century Republican Party, attuned to citizens needs and forward projected into the global, integrated community.

Jake still trying to convince the GOP that we should ignore the crushing loses we suffered at the hands of our incompetent, heartless clueless Moderates in 08 and 12 and ignore the total asskicking Conservatives inflicted on the Dems in 10.

Jake was shocked by the shellacking his side got in 2010

As the economy is improving?

As the housing industry is recovering?

As the younger GOP are saying to the older GOP, "no more race issues, no more social traditionalist nonsense, and show us what you have done to create jobs".

Yes, in part, GOP opportunities in 2014 and 16 will depend on good candidates: not the Bachmanns, more like the Christies to Rubios range.

I think the gop could reach younger voters with a message that govt should not reward sloth. But their econ message was hopelessly muddled when the party was unable to distinguish between a retiree and a welfare mom with six kids, and then further went on to nominate a corporate buzzard who plainly thinks he and his children contribute more to society than a migrant pouring cement or picking produce, and therefore it is only fair they pay less a % of income to tax.

The social and quasi-fundy christian issues are clear losers.

How can you pay less than 0%? Don't tell me migrants pouring cement and picking produce make enough to join the 53% who do pay taxes.

Maybe young voters have a problem with logic and mathematics.

Thank you for illuminating the gop's electoral problem.
