Not sure if any thing has been a boom for Detroit, if it was they wouldn't have filed for bank rupture. But I do know that the auto bail out was not a boom for the country considering the lost models that were discontinued, the hundreds of auto dealers and supporting companies around the country that went bust.

2) The federal government is not charged to assist business

I am always amused how conservatives vilify unions and public workers.

Let's be honest what happened here. Once upon a time, the private sector had good wages because of unionization or the threat of unionization. The Wealthy paid a healthy share of the taxes, as they should. There were tariffs in place that protected our industries (vital to our national defense and economy) from unfair foreign competition. You had a vibrant middle class, Mom could stay home with the kids while Dad worked, people could enjoy vacations.

Then these idiots went along with the Plutocrat's oky-dokes.

"Give up your unions, and your right to collectively bargain. We’ll recognize you for your hard work and merit. We’ll use nice sounding terms like ‘right to work’ and ‘At Will employment’ to describe this."

So they find themselves working harder for less money, and eventually get put out on the street at 50 because the company can always find someone younger who'll work cheaper.

There was a time when unions had a purpose and brought about change.. that time is past.. we now have the appropriate labor laws in place...

We have no need for organizations to force others to join for the sake of employment, pressure politicians for pandering handouts and favoritism, etc...

You want a union in your shop.. fine.. organize your little pals and try and negotiate as a group.. .BUT.. you don't get to force your co-workers or future co-workers to join... and if your employer wishes to hire more of the non-union ones who negotiate for themselves, fine... doing it in such a way does not suddenly bring about slave labor, company stores, 7 year olds being forced to work, etc...

In short, when you think you need a union you simply change masters and show the world that you have no ability to sell your own skills, advance yourself, negotiate your own compensation, and keep yourself viable...

When you tax person A 0% on all income and person B 35% on all income, and complain when person B gets cut to 34% while person A pays nothing and actually starts taking form the system, you act as if it is somehow UNFAIR to person A... laughable... and you shy away from equality in treatment in a flat tax, because God forbid you actually have a stake in the government that is bringing about the confiscation because of increased spending at outrageous levels... you need others to pay for you because you FEEL they can afford it better and you FEEL that the world owes you a break because you do nothing to get out of your fry cook lifestyle
