How much credit should Gorbachev be given;if it had been Stalin could the two have made a deal? We were fortunate that both two world leaders came together at the right time and both wanted to end the cold war.
What is in question is why? Republicans say the cause was Reagan out-spending the USSR, and Democrats say Gorby was cut from different cloth and wanted to make peace and work on the Russian economy. I lean to the latter cause, what do world historians believe?
