Second of all The Cold War is over. And has been for over twenty years. Perhaps it is time for some new policies?

The NATO alliance should have been dissolved then.

Well, if they had NOT expanded it, it might have still served some useful purposes.

But they did, and now it is more of a minus to our national security than a plus.

I don't disagree. Unfortunately there are global political ramifications to this action that may be just as bad as the alternatives.

Not saying it can't be done, but I'm not confident the current administration has the ability to do it properly

It's appalling. In one fell swoop ISIS murdered 1700 Iraqi cadets SHIA Iraqi cadets. All at once. And WE in the west did nothing.

Turkey, like Obama, has been quietly been working WITH ISIS, dealing in Black Market oil used to fund 50% of their terrorist operations - like the invasion of Iraq, the slaughter of thousands of Christian men, women and children, and the terrorist attacks that killed over 150 Parisians and injured almost as many.

Russia exposed them to the world as doing this, and it embarrassed / pissed Turkey off. Given the opportunity, Turkey got 'payback' by shooting down a Russian aircraft. Even the NATO Commander rebuked Turkey for not doing the standard / smart thing which would have been to escort the Russian aircraft out of their airspace.

Rubio believes the US should blindly run to the aid of a NATO ally...who was supporting ISIS and wrongly attacked a Russian A/C. Just because an ally does something extremely bad doesn't mean we should run to their complete defense. I'm all for telling the Russians we won't allow them to start a war with Turkey but would also agree that reparations have to be made / Turkey must be punished in some way.

Of course it's hard for Russia to take the US seriously after it has been exposed that Obama has been protecting, supplying, arming, and training ISIS. Still, we don't have to be anyone's 'shield' if they do something wrong.
