MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin has called U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry a liar for denying that al-Qaida was fighting with the Syrian opposition in that country's civil war.

Speaking Wednesday to his human rights council, Putin recalled watching a congressional debate where Kerry was asked about al-Qaida and denied that it was operating in Syria, even though he was aware of the al-Qaida-linked Jabhat al-Nusra group.

Putin said: "This was very unpleasant and surprising for me. We talk to them (the Americans) and we assume they are decent people, but he is lying and he knows that he is lying. This is sad."

Putin repeated Russia's position that any use of military force against Syria without the approval of the U.N. Security Council would be an act of aggression.

Putin would like to kick Obamas ass and Kerry at the same time.

I haven't been able to find it. Can you give a clue if not a link? Any idea what kind of system they were talking about. Putin just said they would not send the s300 system, their best. Everything else is kind of not much of an issue.

You read about the cruiser Moskva, a force protection ship that carries 28 SAM missiles. It is coming there to protect the small group of ships that includes Marine landing ships and an INTEL ship. There are 38,000 Russian civilians that work in Syria and they have a port to protect also. They are putting, or have put in place assets that will allow them to conduct an evacuation of their citizens and protection of their port.

History will lay responsibility for the bloodshed in Syria at the feet of those who support Assad, and not at the feet of those who failed to support his opposition.

Attacking now is pointless, let the Russians clean up their own mess.

What the hell are you talking about? The rebels are bought and paid for by Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

And AQ's branch in Syria al Nusra is the strongest and the most ruthless and best equipped of all the rebels.

And this is not Russia's mess.

Has Russia not been sending a crap-load of weapons to Syria since this started?

I'm not saying that if the Russians responded to the chemical attack by stopping THEIR flow of weapons that Assad would fall immediately, but it would hurt him.
