ALL alumni are given preference, but without being an alumni child, being white is actually a serious disadvantage as an applicant.It is a fact that universities, especially the elite ones will accept a minority student with inferior grades, test scores, and extra-curriculars over a far more qualified and accomplished White student from the US, in order to satisfy the diversity quota. This is the ideology that is entrenched in the universities nowadays. Otherwise the admissions deans will loose their jobs. It might not sound fair, but that is just a sad fact of life that is going on in all academia today. Unless a white is a child of an alumni (who kept donating) or can pony up some big money, and I'm talking high six to seven figures.
